The coronal dynamics imagers for the KuaFu mission
DOI: 10.1016/j.asr.2007.11.032 Bibcode: 2008AdSpR..42..106V

Lamy, P.; Rousset, G.; Vives, S. +1 more

The Space Weather Explorer - KuaFu mission will provide simultaneous, long-term, and synoptic observations of the complete chain of disturbances from the solar atmosphere to the geospace. KuaFu-A (located at the L1 liberation point) includes Coronal Dynamics Imagers composed of a Lyman-α coronagraph (from 1.15 to 2.7 solar radii) and a white light…

Evolution of galaxy cluster scaling from XMM-Newton observation of the galaxy clusters at z ⩾ 0.4
DOI: 10.1016/j.asr.2008.03.008 Bibcode: 2008AdSpR..42..576A

Anokhin, S. G.

We present here new XMM-Newton observations of 3 relatively cool clusters at z ≈ 0.4, complemented by archival observations of 3 other clusters at similar redshift. We derived the M- T and R- T relations from the hydrostatic equation using an isothermal temperature distribution.

Observations of Multiple X Lines Collisionless Reconnection in the Near Earth-Tail
DOI: 10.1002/cjg2.1307 Bibcode: 2008ChJG...51.1121W

Tang, Chao-Ling; Li, Zhong-Yuan; Wang, Rong-Shen

Observations of the Earth's magnetotail made by the Cluster II during 09:42 09:50 UT on October 1 2001 are presented. Two tailward magnetic flux ropes bounded by earthward and tailward convective high speed flows were observed. We directly detected the source of tailward high flow and the outflow region of earthward flow. Combining the observation…

High spectral resolution X-ray observations of AGN
DOI: 10.1002/asna.200710903 Bibcode: 2008AN....329..162K

Kaastra, J. S.

A brief overview of some highlights of high spectral resolution X-ray observations of AGN is given, mainly obtained with the RGS of XMM-Newton. Future prospects for such observations with XMM-Newton are given.

Observations of the December 2006 Particle Events at High Latitudes with the KET aboard Ulysses
Bibcode: 2008ICRC....1..217H

Malandraki, O.; Heber, B.; Gomez-Herrero, R. +8 more

An unexpected rise of solar activity close to its minimum in December 2006 resulted in four X-class flares and four energetic particle events. These events were observed close to Earth and above 70 degree South by the Ulysses spacecraft, which was at a heliocentric distance of 2.8 AU at that time. Three out of these four events produced significan…

Young stellar populations in the Magellanic Clouds .
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.0711.4719 Bibcode: 2008MmSAI..79..448V

Vallenari, A.

We discuss the young population of stars and clusters in the Magellanic Clouds. We present the discovery of pre-main sequence candidates in the nebula N 11 in the Large Magellanic Clouds. The comparison of the Colour-Magnitude diagram with pre-main sequence tracks and the presence of Spitzer objects YSO I and II suggest that the star formation has…

Ice Emission and the Redshifts of Submillimeter Sources
DOI: 10.1086/587445 Bibcode: 2008ApJ...686..251D

Maloney, P. R.; Imanishi, M.; Dudley, C. C.

Observations at submillimeter wavelengths have revealed a population of sources thought to be at relatively large redshifts. The position of the 850 µm passband on the Rayleigh-Jeans portion of the Planck function leads to a maximum redshift estimate of z ~ 4.5, since sources will not retain their redshift-independent brightness close to the…

Structures of magnetic null points in reconnection diffusion region: Cluster observations
Bibcode: 2008ChSBu..53.1880Y

Baumjohann, W.; Carr, C. M.; Zhang, Hui +10 more

Magnetic reconnection is a very important and fundamental plasma process in transferring energy from magnetic field into plasma. Previous theory, numerical simulations and observations mostly concentrate on 2-dimensional (2D) model; however, magnetic reconnection is a 3-dimensional (3D) nonlinear process in nature. The properties of reconnection i…

A case study of dayside reconnection under extremely low solar wind density conditions
DOI: 10.5194/angeo-26-3571-2008 Bibcode: 2008AnGeo..26.3571M

Dandouras, I.; Rème, H.; Maggiolo, R. +2 more

From 15 February 2004, 20:00 UT to 18 February 2004, 01:00 UT, the solar wind density dropped to extremely low values (about 0.35 cm-3). On 17 February, between 17:45 UT and 18:10 UT, the CLUSTER spacecraft cross the dayside magnetopause several times at a large radial distance of about 16 RE. During each of these crossings, …

Constraining the neutron star equation of state using XMM-Newton
DOI: 10.1002/asna.200710912 Bibcode: 2008AN....329..198J

Kaastra, J.; Méndez, M.; Jonker, P. G. +1 more

We have identified three possible ways in which future XMM-Newton, observations can provide significant constraints on the equation of state of neutron stars. First, using a long observation of the neutron star X-ray transient Cen X-4 in quiescence one can use the RGS spectrum to constrain the interstellar extinction to the source. This removes th…
