The UV Polarization of X-Ray Binary Systems Observed with the Hubble Space Telescope
DOI: 10.1086/133476 Bibcode: 1994PASP..106.1019W

Wolinski, Karen

The High-Speed Photometer (HSP) was one of the four axial instruments on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) from April, 1990 to December, 1993. We used this instrument to observe the X-ray binary systems HD 153919, Vela XR-1 and Cyg XR-1 both photometrically and polarimetrically in the UV. The photometric and polarimetric light curves of each target…

Observations of the solar corona with ulysses: Expectations above the polar regions
DOI: 10.1016/0273-1177(94)90182-1 Bibcode: 1994AdSpR..14d.195W

Marsden, R. G.; Wenzel, K. -P.

During its prime mission phase, the Ulysses space probe will fly above both solar poles, providing an unprecedented opportunity to study the high latitude regions of the solar corona. The timing of the polar passes (mid-1994 and mid-1995) coincides with solar minimum, corresponding to a coronal configuration consisting of well-developed polar coro…

Do We Have a Radio Powerful Star without a Chromosphere?
DOI: 10.1007/BF00628075 Bibcode: 1994Ap&SS.220...49G

Gurzadyan, G. A.

Two radio stars are selected, both equally powerful in microwave radio emission, but one of which, HD 101379, with a superpower chromosphere, and the other one, HD 132742, without a noticable chromosphere. On IUE recordings of HD 132742, a binary system like HD 101319, the doublet 2800 Mg II appears in absorption (Figure 1a). However, in the last …

Determination of Wind Parameters by the Method of Differential Corrections
Bibcode: 1994JASS...11..107K

Kim, You-Kyung; Kang, Young Woon

This paper describes a method for the determination of wind parameters as mass-loss rate, wind velocity, stochastic velocity in Zeta Aurigae type binaries. We have modified the Baade's (1989) computer code to analyze the wind parameters of Zeta Aurigae type binaries according to the least squares criterion. The modified program adjusts the wind pa…

Recent Magnetic Field Results from the Galileo and Ulysses Spacecraft
DOI: 10.1098/rsta.1994.0130 Bibcode: 1994RSPTA.349..261S

Southwood, D. J.

Both Galileo and Ulysses spacecraft have made important exploratory measurements before either start the main phase of their missions. Galileo has flown by several objects in the inner Solar System before its reaching Jupiter. The most notable results from the spacecraft magnetometer are the detection of magnetic field deflections in the vicinity …

COS-B identification of the new γ pulsar PSR 1055-52
DOI: 10.1016/0275-1062(94)90037-X Bibcode: 1994ChA&A..18..272S

Lu, Tan; Song, Li-ming

Using COS-B data we analyzed the timing parameters of PSR 1055-52, the newly discovered γ-ray pulsar by CGRO. We found a significant and similar pulsed structure, thus confirming the CGRO discovery. A comparison of this pulsar with 5 previously known ones is made.

DOI: 10.1086/172936 Bibcode: 1993ApJ...412..479D

We have searched the Einstein Monitor Proportional Counter (MPC) data base for observations of clusters of galaxies. The MPC was a nonfocal plane instrument on board the Einstein Observatory and accumulated data during all pointed observations with the four focal plane instruments. By co-adding the MPC spectra obtained during all pointed observati…

Discovery of New Objects in the Orion Nebula on HST Images: Shocks, Compact Sources, and Protoplanetary Disks
DOI: 10.1086/172786 Bibcode: 1993ApJ...410..696O

O'Dell, C. R.; Wen, Zheng; Hu, Xihai

We have reduced and analyzed a set of narrow-band HST images of a portion of M42 south of the Trapezium. Many new emission-line sources were found, some quite long but so narrow that they are not seen on ground-based images. These include thin shells which are high-ionization shocks. The structure around Orion HH 3 is resolved into multiple compon…

The ultraviolet to soft X-ray bump of Seyfert 1 type active galactic nuclei.
Bibcode: 1993A&A...274..105W

Walter, R.; Fink, H. H.

The soft X-ray (0.1 - 2.4 keV) emission of 58 Seyfert type active galactic nuclei have been studied using the spectra obtained during the ROSAT all sky survey. These spectra are well represented by power law models with photon indices ranging between 1.6 and 3.4. The spectra usually do not show intrinsic absorption. A notable exception is Mrk 766 …
