A method for solving the linearized Boltzmann equation for almost uniformly rotating stellar disks.
Dejonghe, H.; Vauterin, P.
We construct analytical phase-space solutions for perturbations of flat disks by performing a power series expansion for the radius and the velocity coordinates. We show that this approach translates into an elegant mathematical formulation which is easy to use for a wide variety of distribution functions, for as far as resonances do not play a ro…
HST Observations of the DAV White Dwarf G 226--29
Kepler, S. O.; Robinson, E. L.; Nather, R. E.
We observed G 226-29 for 15 hours with the HST and detected two problems in spectrograms obtained with the post-COSTAR Faint Object Spectrograph and the G160L grating. First, using the 1 arcsec entrance aperture with a triple peakup, we found a strong ( =~ 3 %) modulation of the total count rate on a time scale similar to the HST orbital period. S…
Interplanetary Type III Radio Bursts Observed from High Southern Heliographic Latitudes
Stone, R. G.; Fainberg, J.; Reiner, M. J.
Type III radio bursts observed from high southern latitudes are analyzed for the first time. The continual observation of these radio bursts by Ulysses from after the Jupiter swing-by to 50°S latitude argues for a wide latitudinal directivity of type III radiation. From this high latitude perspective, type III radio sources that lie in the far hem…

Average unreddened UV flux distributions of OB dwarfs
Megier, Andrzej
The average intrinsic flux distributions for early-type main-sequence stars are obtained from IUE low-dispersion spectra. The colour-excess dereddening method allows stars of various colour excesses to be included in the samples. The resulting spectra are free from all interstellar extinction effects that correlate with E(B-V).
The HIPPARCOS multiple stars: reduction methods and preliminary results.
Pannunzio, R.; Morbidelli, R.; Sarasso, M. +2 more
This paper presents the first results obtained on a sample of multiple stars observed by Hipparcos, by two independent reduction methods (the Global Fitting approach and the Scanning Angle Functions method) on the basis of the data collected during the first 30 months of the mission. The preliminary results on a set of 10 triple stars are shown an…
Numerical simulations of large-scale solar wind fluctuations observed by Ulysses at high heliographic latitudes
Goldstein, M. L.; Ghosh, S.; Roberts, D. A.
An analysis of Ulysses plasma and magnetic field data from the high southern latitude pass revealed that at large spatial scales corresponding to wave frequencies below 10-5 Hz in the spacecraft frame, there is a transition from highly Alfvénic turbulence in all three spatial components of the fields to fluctuations which are Alfvénic o…

Solar Particles Seen by ULYSSES Near 33 deg S Latitude
Simnett, G. M.; Tappin, S. J.
We have analysed the ions and electrons seen by the HI-SCALE instrument on the Ulysses spacecraft in the interval from 21 30 June 1993, ahead of an arrival of the CIR which has dominated the particle environment of Ulysses since July 1992. These particles show velocity dispersion effects usually associated with solar-flare particles. There was no …
