A prominent relativistic iron line in the Seyfert 1 MCG-02-14-009
Porquet, D.
I report the discovery of a prominent broad and asymmetrical feature near 6.4 keV in the Seyfert 1
Interpreting multipoint observations of substructure at the quasi-perpendicular bow shock: Simulations
Burgess, D.
Two-dimensional hybrid simulations of high Mach number quasi-perpendicular collisionless shocks, as relevant to the Earth's bow shock, show strong fluctuations of density and magnetic field within the average shock profile. In particular, there are rapid variations moving across the shock surface, in terms of local changes in its position and the …
Overdensity of X-Ray Sources in the Field of Two Nearby Clusters of Galaxies: XMM-Newton View of A 194 and A 1060
Kunieda, Hideyo; Haba, Yoshito; Furuzawa, Akihiro +4 more
Two nearby clusters of galaxies, A194 (z=0.018) and A1060 (z=0.0114), have been analyzed for their X-ray point-source properties with XMM-Newton EPIC-PN data. A multi-band source detection technique was applied to both of the clusters, resulting in 46 sources from the A194 field and 32 sources from the A1060 field, respectively. The cumulative log…
Evolution of the X-Ray Jets from 4U 1755-33
Wijnands, R.; Tomsick, J. A.; Kaaret, P. +4 more
We report on new X-ray observations of the large-scale jets recently discovered in X-rays from the black hole candidate 4U 1755-33. Our observations in 2004 show that the jets found in 2001 are still present in X-rays. However, sensitive radio observations in 2004 failed to detect the jets. We suggest that synchrotron radiation is a viable emissio…
Observations of the Martian Subsolar ENA Jet Oscillations
Fedorov, A.; Barabash, S.; Futaana, Y. +1 more
The Neutral Particle Detector (NPD) of the ASPERA-3 experiment (Analyser of Space Plasmas and Energetic Atoms) on board the Mars Express (MEX) spacecraft observed an intense flux of H ENAs (energetic neutral atoms) with average energy of about 1.5 keV emitted anisotropically from the subsolar region of Mars. The NPD detected the ENA jet near the b…
Rosetta on its way to the outer solar system
Montagnon, Elsa; Ferri, Paolo
The International Rosetta Mission, a cornerstone mission of the European Space Agency Scientific Programme, was launched on 2nd March 2004 on its 10 years journey towards a rendezvous with comet Churyumov Gerasimenko. Once reached the comet nucleus in summer 2014, Rosetta will orbit it for about 1.5 years down to distances of a few kilometers and …
Multiwavelength Monitoring of the Dwarf Seyfert 1 Galaxy NGC 4395. II. X-Ray and Ultraviolet Continuum Variability
O'Neill, Paul M.; Kaspi, Shai; Laor, Ari +7 more
We report on two Chandra observations, and a simultaneous Hubble Space Telescope ultraviolet observation, of the dwarf Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4395. Each Chandra observation had a duration of ~30 ks, with a separation of ~50 ks. The spectrum was observed to harden between these observations via a scaling down of the soft-band flux. The interobservati…
SOHO/CDS observations of waves above the network
Curdt, W.; Rybák, J.; Gömöry, P. +2 more
We analyze temporal variations in the intensities and the Doppler shifts of He i 584.33 Å (chromosphere), O v 629.73 Å (transition region), and Mg ix 368.07 Å (corona) measured in and above chromospheric network near disk center with the Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer (CDS) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). There is significa…
CCD Speckle Observations of Binary Stars from the Southern Hemisphere. IV. Measures during 2001
Horch, Elliott P.; Franz, Otto G.; Baptista, Brian J. +1 more
We present 549 observations of 181 primarily southern binary stars. Of these, 32 are high-quality nondetections, meaning that, if binary, the system had a separation below the diffraction limit at the time of the observation, and relative astrometry is presented for the remaining 517 observations. In addition, a magnitude difference measure is rep…
Encounters of the dust trails of comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdusakova with Venus in 2006
Christou, A. A.; Vaubaillon, J.
Aims.We aim to investigate the dynamical fate of meteoroids ejected during past perihelion passages of comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdusakova that intersect the orbit of Venus. Of particular interest is the possibility, borne of previous work, that a significant flux of these particles will reach the planet during early June and late August 2006, when …
