Hard X-ray colours of neutron star and black hole low mass X-ray binaries with INTEGRAL
DOI: 10.1016/j.asr.2007.05.008 Bibcode: 2007AdSpR..40.1532S

Paltani, Stéphane; Courvoisier, Thierry J. -L.; Mowlavi, Nami +3 more

The X-ray spectra of low mass X-ray binaries (LMXB) can change on short time-scales, making it difficult to follow their spectral characteristics in detail through model fitting. Colour-colour (C-C) diagrams are therefore often used as alternative, model independent, tools to study the spectral variability of these sources. The INTEGRAL mission, w…

La ionosfera lunare studiata per mezzo delle occultazioni della sonda SMART-1
Bibcode: 2007AsUAI...4...20P

Pluchino, S.; Maccaferri, G.; Schilliró, F. +3 more

European spacecraft SMART-1 provided an opportunity to investigate the lunar ionosphere. A set of occulations of the Moon ionosphere was obtained between August 29th and September 1st 2006. Radio occulation data in S, X and Ka-band by #2 32-meter IRA-INAF radiotelescopes were gathered. A good model of the lunar ionosphere emerged.

On the possibility of gly and ala amino acids on Titan
Bibcode: 2007BASI...35...15S

Saxena, P. P.

In view of the possible production of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in Titan's atmosphere, the production of α-amino nitriles, the precursors of glycine and alanine amino acids, is explored in the upper atmosphere of Titan. The presence of glycine and alanine amino acids or their precursor amino nitriles can be used as a diagnostic respectively fo…

Espectros Multi-Onda de las Estrellas Mas Masivas
Bibcode: 2007BAAA...50...67W

Walborn, N. R.

The systematic trends and relationships among normal OB spectra in the optical, ultraviolet, and X-ray domains are reviewed. The last of these are a recent surprise to many specialists, which establish important constraints on the physical origin of the X-ray emission. Some peculiar categories are also described, including CNO anomalies at the ear…

Dust in Planetary Systems
Bibcode: 2007ESASP.643.....K

Krueger, H.; Graps, A.

The workshop 'Dust in Planetary Systems' was held in Kauai'i/Hawaii from September 26 to 30, 2005, following the tradition of holding meetings in the field of Interplanetary Dust Research at regular intervals of a few years. The series of meetings started in Honolulu, Hawaii (USA) in 1967, followed by Heidelberg (Germany) in 1975, Ottawa (Canada) …

The Supernova Legacy Survey: measurement of ΩM, ΩΛ and w from the first year data set
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361:20054185 Bibcode: 2006A&A...447...31A

Sullivan, M.; Lidman, C.; Aldering, G. +39 more

We present distance measurements to 71 high redshift type Ia supernovae discovered during the first year of the 5-year Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS). These events were detected and their multi-color light-curves measured using the MegaPrime/MegaCam instrument at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT), by repeatedly imaging four one-square degr…

A Direct Empirical Proof of the Existence of Dark Matter
DOI: 10.1086/508162 Bibcode: 2006ApJ...648L.109C

Bradač, Maruša; Jones, Christine; Gonzalez, Anthony H. +4 more

We present new weak-lensing observations of 1E 0657-558 (z=0.296), a unique cluster merger, that enable a direct detection of dark matter, independent of assumptions regarding the nature of the gravitational force law. Due to the collision of two clusters, the dissipationless stellar component and the fluid-like X-ray-emitting plasma are spatially…

Global Mineralogical and Aqueous Mars History Derived from OMEGA/Mars Express Data
DOI: 10.1126/science.1122659 Bibcode: 2006Sci...312..400B

Drossart, Pierre; Korablev, Oleg; Forget, F. +43 more

Global mineralogical mapping of Mars by the Observatoire pour la Mineralogie, l'Eau, les Glaces et l'Activité (OMEGA) instrument on the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft provides new information on Mars' geological and climatic history. Phyllosilicates formed by aqueous alteration very early in the planet's history (the ``phyllocian'…
