We have retrieved Spitzer archive data of pre-stellar cores taken with the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) at a wavelength of 160 µm. For the first time, we have identified Ne VIII absorption lines in far-UV spectra of the hottest known (T_eff ⪆ 150 000 K) hydrogen-deficient (pre-) white dwarfs of spectral type PG1159.
