On Charon's Far-ultraviolet Surface Reflectance
Parker, Joel Wm.; Stern, S. Alan; Verbiscer, Anne J. +3 more
We present the first measurements of Charon's far-ultraviolet (FUV) surface reflectance, obtained by the Alice spectrograph on New Horizons. We find no measurable flux shortward of 1650 Å, and Charon's geometric albedo is <0.019 (3σ) at 1600 Å. From 1650 to 1725 Å, Charon's geometric albedo increases to 0.166 ± 0.068 and remains nearly constant…
The SIXS Instrument on Bepicolumbo, and Its Use for Space Weather Observations, and in Conjunction with MIXS
Muinonen, Karri; Huovelin, Juhani; Bunce, E. +2 more
The Solar Intensity X-ray and particle Spectrometer (SIXS) on BepiColumbo Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) will investigate the direct solar X-rays and protons and electrons which pass the spacecraft on their way to Mercury. It has an innovative compact design, and the Mercury Imaging X-ray Spectrometer, with which it is paired, is similarly highly…
Infrared Emission Properties of Active Galactic Nuclei from Swift-BAT Hard X-Ray Survey
Yang, Xiao-Hong
The Swift/Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) 105-month survey detected 1632 hard X-ray sources in the 14-195 keV band, which includes 1105 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) that are unbiased against Compton-thin obscuration. We use a series of two-color diagrams to analyze the near, mid (MIR), and far-infrared properties of the Swift/BAT AGNs, based on data …
In Which Magnetotail Hemisphere is a Satellite? Problems Using in Situ Magnetic Field Data
Gunell, H.; Hamrin, M.; Pitkänen, T. +2 more
In Earth's magnetotail plasma sheet, the sunward tailward Bx component of the magnetic field is often used to separate the region above and below the cross tail current sheet. Using a three dimensional magneto hydrodynamic simulation, we show that high speed flows do not only affect the north south magnetic field component (causing dipo…
Chandrayaan-1 Moon Impact Probe: Impact Location Refined
Stooke, P. J.; Subramanian, S.; Ahmed, S. M.
Chndrayaan-1's Moon Impact Probe took images as it descended on 14 November 2009. Past attempts to locate the impact compared lower resolution images with a Clementine map. We use LROC images and the last few MIP images to refine the impact site.
Studies of Heliospheric Modulation of Cosmic Rays at ShICRA SB RAS and Prospects of Their Further Development
Gololobov, P. Yu.; Starodubtsev, S. A.; Krymsky, G. F. +8 more
The paper presents the results of the staff of ShICRA SB RAS on cosmic ray research over the past two decades. A brief description of the current state and prospects for further development of the experimental base for recording cosmic rays, methods for processing experimental data, and scientific research of various phenomena of heliospheric modu…
Investigation of relative motion in the triple system ADS 48 on the basis of Gaia DR2 and Pulkovo 26-inch refractor observations
Zhuchkov, R. Ya.; Kiyaeva, O. V.; Izmailov, I. S.
There are high-precision positions, proper motions, parallaxes and radial velocities at the instant 2015.5 for all three components of the star ADS 48 ABF in the catalog Gaia DR2 (2018). According to these data relative motions and the family of orbits were calculated by the Apparent Motion Parameters (AMP) method (Kiselev and Kiyaeva,1980), and t…
Kinematics of the Milky Way Thick disk in solar neighborhood
Vieira, K.; Korchagin, V.; Lutsenko, A.
Using GAIA EDR3 catalog, we present the detailed analysis of the two-component Milky Way stellar disk in the solar neighborhood. To determine the kinematical properties of the thin and of the Thick disks, we select the complete sample of about 278,000 evolved red giant branch (RGB) stars distributed in the cylinder of 1 kpc radius and 0.5 kpc heig…
Origin of the Solar Rotation Harmonics Seen in the EUV and UV Irradiance
Giono, G.; Zender, J. J.; Kariyappa, R. +1 more
Long-term periodicities in the solar irradiance are often observed with periods proportional to the solar rotational period of 27 days. These periods are linked either to some internal mechanism in the Sun or said to be higher harmonics of the rotation without further discussion of their origin. In this article, the origin of the peaks in periodic…
ILEWG report to COSPAR: Science, Technology, human aspects, roadmaps, socio-economics, young lunar explorers, MoonVillage, MoonMars synergies, EuroMoonMars, ArtMoonMars
Foing, Bernard H.
ILEWG has been organising since 1994 ICEUM International Conferences on Exploration & Utilisation of the Moon with published proceedings, and where community declarations have been prepared and endorsed by community participants. ILEWG has co-organised and co-sponsored lunar sessions at EGU, COSPAR, EPSC. ILEWG task groups include science, tec…
