Impact of the cosmic neutrino background on long-range force searches
DOI: 10.1007/JHEP07(2024)255 Bibcode: 2024JHEP...07..255C

Chauhan, Garv; Xu, Xun-Jie

Light bosons can mediate long-range forces. We show that light bosonic mediators interacting with a background medium, in particular, with the cosmic neutrino background (CνB), may induce medium-dependent masses which could effectively screen long-range forces from detection. This leads to profound implications for long-range force searches in e.g…

Analysis of the public HARPS/ESO spectroscopic archive. Ca II H&K time series for the HARPS radial velocity database
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/202348263 Bibcode: 2024A&A...683A.125P

Context. Magnetic activity is currently the primary limiting factor in radial velocity (RV) exoplanet searches. Even inactive stars, such as the Sun, exhibit RV jitter of the order of a few m s−1 due to active regions on their surfaces. Time series of chromospheric activity indicators, such as the Ca II H&K lines, can be utilized to…

The Galaxy Activity, Torus, and Outflow Survey (GATOS). IV. Exploring Ionized Gas Outflows in Central Kiloparsec Regions of GATOS Seyferts
DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad6a4b Bibcode: 2024ApJ...974..195Z

Bunker, Andrew J.; Imanishi, Masatoshi; Gandhi, Poshak +33 more

Utilizing JWST MIRI/Medium Resolution Spectrograph integral field unit observations of the kiloparsec-scale central regions, we showcase the diversity of ionized gas distributions and kinematics in six nearby Seyfert galaxies included in the GATOS survey. Specifically, we present spatially resolved flux distribution and velocity field maps of six …

The cold interstellar medium of a normal sub-L galaxy at the end of reionization
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/202348128 Bibcode: 2024A&A...685A.138V

We present the results of a ∼60-h multiband observational campaign with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array targeting a spectroscopically confirmed and lensed sub-L galaxy at z = 6.07, first identified during the ALMA Lensing Cluster Survey (ALCS). We sampled the dust continuum emission from rest frame 90-370 µm at six different f…

Medium-resolution 0.97–5.3 µm Spectra of Very Young Benchmark Brown Dwarfs with NIRSpec on Board the James Webb Space Telescope
DOI: 10.3847/1538-3881/ad2938 Bibcode: 2024AJ....167..168M

Manjavacas, Elena; Giardino, G.; Valenti, Jeff +7 more

Spectra of young benchmark brown dwarfs with well-known ages are vital to characterize other brown dwarfs, for which ages are in general not known. These spectra are also crucial to test atmospheric models, which have the potential to provide detailed information about the atmospheres of these objects. However, to test atmospheric models optimally…

Charting the main sequence of star-forming galaxies out to redshifts z ≲ 5.7
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/202449948 Bibcode: 2024A&A...691A.164K

We present a new determination of the star-forming main sequence (MS), obtained through stacking 100k K-band-selected galaxies in the far-infrared (FIR) Herschel and James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) imaging. By fitting the dust emission curve to the stacked FIR photometry, we derive the IR luminosities (LIR), and hence the star form…

We study the distribution of cold molecular gas in the circumunuclear disks (CND; r ≤ 200 pc) of a sample of 64 nearby (DL = 7 ‑ 45 Mpc) disk galaxies – including 45 active galactic nuclei (AGN) and 19 nonAGN – for which high-spatial-resolution (median value ≃36 pc) multiline CO interferometer observations have been obtained at millimet…

JWST MIRI and NIRCam unveil previously unseen infrared stellar populations in NGC 6822
DOI: 10.1093/mnras/stae1163 Bibcode: 2024MNRAS.531..183N

Temim, Tea; Hirschauer, Alec S.; Boyer, Martha L. +9 more

NGC 6822 is a nearby (~490 kpc) non-interacting low-metallicity (0.2 Z) dwarf galaxy which hosts several prominent H II regions, including sites of highly embedded active star formation. In this work, we present an imaging survey of NGC 6822 conducted with the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) onboard JWS…

Hints of point-symmetric structures in SN 1987A: The jittering jets explosion mechanism
DOI: 10.1016/j.newast.2023.102154 Bibcode: 2024NewA..10702154S

Soker, Noam

I identify a point-symmetric structure composed of three pairs of clumps in the recently released JWST image of the ejecta of SN 1987A and argue that these pairs of clumps support the jittering jets explosion mechanism (JJEM) for SN 1987A. I compare this point-symmetric structure with the multipolar-lobe morphology of a post-asymptotic giant branc…

Context. Recent molecular surveys have revealed the rich gas organization of sonic-like filaments at small scales (so-called fibers) in all types of environments prior to the formation of low- and high-mass stars. These fibers form at the end of the turbulent cascade and are identified as the fine substructure within the hierarchical nature of the…
