LAMOST J045019.27 + 394758.7, with peculiar abundances of N, Na, V, Zn, is possibly a Sculptor dwarf galaxy escapee
Shejeelammal, J.; Goswami, Aruna; Joshi, Santosh +5 more
We present the results of the high-resolution (R ~ 60 000) spectroscopic analysis of the star LAMOSTJ045019.27 + 394758.7 (hereafter J045) from the list of carbon stars of LAMOST DR2. From our analysis, we find that J045 does not exhibit the spectral characteristics of carbon stars. It is found to be a metal-poor ([Fe/H] = -1.05) giant that shows …
Linear Theory of Electromagnetic Ion Beam Instabilities in the Earth's Forshock: Peter Gary's Contributions (1981–1991)
Wilson, Lynn B., III; Winske, Dan
We discuss Peter Gary's contributions to the understanding of the origin and properties of ultra-low frequency (ULF) waves in the Earth's foreshock during the period when the International Sun Earth Explorer spacecraft (ISEE-1 and -2) provided unique data about the plasma and wave environment in this region. Peter's work concerning the linear theo…
XMM-Newton observations of PSR J0554+3107: pulsing thermal emission from a cooling high-mass neutron star
Karpova, A. V.; Zyuzin, D. A.; Potekhin, A. Y. +2 more
XMM-Newton observations of the middle-aged radio-quiet γ-ray pulsar J0554+3107 allowed us, for the first time, firmly identify it in X-rays by detection of pulsations with the pulsar period. In the 0.2-2 keV band, the pulse profile shows two peaks separated by about a half of the rotation phase with the pulsed fraction of 25 ± 6 per cent. The prof…
The First Photometric Study of AH Mic Contact Binary System
Poro, Atila; Blackford, M. G.; Ranjbar Salehian, S. +7 more
The first multi-color light curve analysis of the AH Mic binary system is presented. This system has very few past observations from the southern hemisphere. We extracted the minima times from the light curves based on the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach and obtained a new ephemeris. To provide modern photometric light curve solutions, we…
Contribution of flows around active regions to the north-south helioseismic travel-time measurements
Gizon, L.; Poulier, P. -L.; Liang, Z. -C. +1 more
Context. In local helioseismology, the travel times of acoustic waves propagating in opposite directions along the same meridian inform us about horizontal flows in the north-south direction. The longitudinal averages of the north-south helioseismic travel-time shifts vary with the sunspot cycle.
Aims: We aim to study the contribution of infl…
Study of the X-ray Pulsar IGR J21343+4738 Based on NuSTAR, Swift, and SRG Data
Lutovinov, A. A.; Molkov, S. V.; Semena, A. N. +1 more
We present the results of our study of the X-ray pulsar IGR J21343+4738 based on NuSTAR, Swift, and SRG observations in the wide energy range 0.3-79 keV. The absence of absorption features in the energy spectra of the source, both averaged and phase-resolved ones, has allowed us to estimate the upper and lower limits on the magnetic field of the n…
Variability of the Sun's Luminosity Places Constraints on the Thermal Equilibrium of the Convection Zone
Dudok de Wit, T.; Vieira, L. E. A.; Kopp, G. +5 more
Luminosity, which is the total amount of radiant energy emitted by an object, is one of the most critical quantities in astrophysics for characterizing stars. Equally important is the temporal evolution of a star's luminosity because of its intimate connection with the stellar energy budget, large-scale convective motion, and heat storage in the s…
Cold Atom Interferometry for Enhancing the Radio Science Gravity Experiment: A Phobos Case Study
Dirkx, Dominic; Plumaris, Michael; Siemes, Christian +1 more
Interplanetary missions have typically relied on Radio Science (RS) to recover gravity fields by detecting their signatures on the spacecraft trajectory. The weak gravitational fields of small bodies, coupled with the prominent influence of confounding accelerations, hinder the efficacy of this method. Meanwhile, quantum sensors based on Cold Atom…
A new insight of AGC 198691 (Leoncino) galaxy with MEGARA at the GTC
Castillo-Morales, A.; Gallego, J.; Mollá, M. +9 more
We describe the observations of the low metallicity nearby galaxy AGC 198691 (Leoncino Dwarf) obtained with the Integral Field Unit of the instrument MEGARA at the Gran Telescopio Canarias. The observations cover the wavelength ranges 4304-5198 Å and 6098-7306 Å with a resolving power R ≈ 6000. We present 2D maps of the ionized gas, deriving the e…
The Shellless Supernova Remnant B0532-67.5 in the Large Magellanic Cloud
Chu, You-Hua; Li, Chuan-Jui; Chuang, Chen-Yu +1 more
The supernova remnant (SNR) B0532-67.5 in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) was first diagnosed by its nonthermal radio emission, and its SNR nature was confirmed by the observation of diffuse X-ray emission; however, no optical SNR shell is detected. The OB association LH75, or NGC 2011, is projected within the boundary of this SNR. We have analyz…
