TIC 257060897b: An inflated, low-density, hot-Jupiter transiting a rapidly evolving subgiant star
Montalto, M.; Piotto, G.; Nascimbeni, V. +7 more
We report the discovery of a new transiting exoplanet orbiting the star TIC 257060897 and detected using TESS full frame images. We acquired HARPS-N time-series spectroscopic data, and ground-based photometric follow-up observations from which we confirm the planetary nature of the transiting body. For the host star we determined: Teff …
Star Cluster Formation and Evolution in M101: An Investigation with the Legacy Extragalactic UV Survey
Sabbi, E.; Dale, D. A.; Calzetti, D. +13 more
We present Hubble Space Telescope WFC3/UVIS (F275W, F336W) and ACS/WFC optical (F435W, F555W, and F814W) observations of the nearby grand-design spiral galaxy M101 as part of the Legacy Extragalactic UV Survey (LEGUS). Compact sources detected in at least four bands were classified by both human experts and the convolutional neural network STARCNE…
NICMOS Kernel-phase Interferometry. I. Catalogue of Brown Dwarfs Observed in F110W and F170M
Kraus, Adam L.; Factor, Samuel M.
Filling out the dearth of detections between direct imaging and radial velocity surveys will test theories of planet formation and (sub)stellar binarity across the full range of semimajor axes, connecting formation of close- to wide-separation gas giants and substellar companions. Direct detection of close-in companions is notoriously difficult: c…
Comprehensive X-ray view of the active nucleus in NGC 4258
Celotti, A.; Boorman, P. G.; Masini, A. +1 more
Context. The presence of water masers orbiting around the active galactic nucleus (AGN) in NGC 4258, one of the most studied extragalactic objects, has been crucial in developing a detailed picture of its nuclear environment. Nonetheless, its accretion rate and bolometric luminosity are still matter of debate, as there are indications that NGC 425…
HST WFC3/Grism observations of the candidate ultra-high-redshift radio galaxy GLEAM J0917-0012
Seymour, N.; Drouart, G.; Vernet, J. D. R. +11 more
We present Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3 photometric and grism observations of the candidate ultra-high-redshift ( $z>7$ ) radio galaxy, GLEAM J0917-0012. This radio source was selected due to the curvature in its 70-230 MHz, low-frequency Murchison Widefield Array radio spectrum and its faintness in K-band. Follow-up spectroscopic…
Solar Radio-Burst Forecast Based on a Convolutional Neural Network
Feng, S. W.; Ma, Q.; Du, Q. F. +3 more
A solar radio burst is the enhancement of radio emission during the release of solar magnetic energy. It is an important indicator of the level of solar activity. In this paper, we propose a solar radio-burst forecast model that takes the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO)/Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) full-disk solar magnetograms as input…
Daring to think of the impossible: The story of Vlasiator
Palmroth, Minna
Vlasiator is the world's first global Eulerian hybrid-Vlasov simulation code, going beyond magnetohydrodynamics in the solar wind—magnetosphere—ionosphere system. This paper gives the story of Vlasiator. An important enabler of Vlasiator is the rapid increase of computational resources over the last decade, but also the open-minded, courageous for…
APOGEE-2S Mg-Al anti-correlation of the metal-poor globular cluster NGC 2298
Beers, Timothy C.; Minniti, Dante; Lane, Richard R. +6 more
We present detailed elemental abundances and radial velocities of stars in the metal-poor globular cluster (GC) NGC 2298, based on near-infrared high-resolution (R ∼ 22 500) spectra of 12 members obtained during the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2) at Las Campanas Observatory as part of the seve…
Kinematics, structure and abundances of supernova remnant 0540-69.3
Lundqvist, P.; Shibanov, Yu. A.; Lundqvist, N.
Aims: Our goal is to investigate the structure, elemental abundances, physical conditions, and the immediate surroundings of supernova remnant 0540-69.3 in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
Methods: Imaging in [O III] and spectroscopic studies through various slits were carried out using European Souther Observatory's Very Large and New Techno…
Multiwavelength Modeling the SED of Luminous Supersoft X-Ray Sources in Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud
Skopal, Augustin
Classical supersoft X-ray sources (SSSs) are understood as close binary systems in which a massive white dwarf accretes from its companion at rates sustaining steady hydrogen burning on its surface generating bolometric luminosities of 1036-2 × 1038 erg s-1. Here, we perform for the first time the global supersoft …
