The Proper Motion of the Pulsar J1124-5916 in the Galactic Supernova Remnant G292.0+1.8
Long, Xi; Plucinsky, Paul P.; Patnaude, Daniel J. +1 more
We present the first direct measurement of the proper motion of pulsar J1124-5916 in the young, oxygen-rich supernova remnant G292.0+1.8. Using deep Chandra ACIS-I observations from 2006 to 2016, we measure a positional change of 0.″21 ± 0.″05 over the ~10 yr baseline, or ~0.″02 yr-1. At a distance of 6.2 ± 0.9 kpc, this corresponds to …
The ESO-VLT MIKiS Survey Reloaded: Velocity Dispersion Profile and Rotation Curve of NGC 1904
Vesperini, Enrico; Pallanca, Cristina; Dalessandro, Emanuele +8 more
We present an investigation of the internal kinematic properties of M79 (NGC 1904). Our study is based on radial velocity measurements obtained from the ESO-VLT Multi-Instrument Kinematic Survey (MIKiS) of Galactic globular clusters for more than 1700 individual stars distributed between ~0.″3 and 770″ (~14 three-dimensional half-mass radii) from …
Plasma Composition Measurements in an Active Region from Solar Orbiter/SPICE and Hinode/EIS
Teriaca, Luca; Schmutz, Werner; Warren, Harry P. +28 more
A key goal of the Solar Orbiter mission is to connect elemental abundance measurements of the solar wind enveloping the spacecraft with extreme-UV (EUV) spectroscopic observations of their solar sources, but this is not an easy exercise. Observations from previous missions have revealed a highly complex picture of spatial and temporal variations o…
The statistical properties of 28 IR-bright dust-obscured galaxies and SED modelling using CIGALE
Burgarella, Denis; Frey, Sándor; Toba, Yoshiki +7 more
The aim of this study is to characterize the physical and statistical properties of a sample of infrared-bright dust-obscured galaxies (DOGs) by fitting their spectral energy distributions (SEDs). We examined 28 DOGs at redshifts 0.47 ≤ z ≤ 1.63 discovered by combining images of the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey, the VISTA Kilo-degree Infr…
The ALPINE-ALMA [C II] survey: Investigation of 10 galaxies at z 4.5 with [O II] and [C II] line emission - ISM properties and [O II]-SFR relation
Schaerer, D.; Béthermin, M.; Boquien, M. +23 more
We present 10 main-sequence ALPINE galaxies (log (M/M⊙) = 9.2-11.1 and ${\rm SFR}=23-190\, {\rm M_{\odot }\, yr^{-1}}$) at z ~ 4.5 with optical [O II] measurements from Keck/MOSFIRE spectroscopy and Subaru/MOIRCS narrow-band imaging. This is the largest such multiwavelength sample at these redshifts, combining various measurements in th…
Connecting Chromospheric Condensation Signatures to Reconnection-driven Heating Rates in an Observed Flare
Qiu, Jiong; Longcope, Dana W.; Zhu, Chunming +1 more
Observations of solar flare reconnection at very high spatial and temporal resolution can be made indirectly at the footpoints of reconnected loops into which flare energy is deposited. The response of the lower atmosphere to this energy input includes a downward-propagating shock called chromospheric condensation, which can be observed in the UV …
The Molecular Composition of Shadowed Proto-solar Disk Midplanes Beyond the Water Snowline
Walsh, Catherine; Nomura, Hideko; Ohno, Kazumasa +3 more
The disk midplane temperature is potentially affected by the dust traps/rings. The dust depletion beyond the water snowline will cast a shadow. In this study, we adopt a detailed gas-grain chemical reaction network, and investigate the radial gas and ice abundance distributions of dominant carbon-, oxygen-, and nitrogen-bearing molecules in disks …
Chemical enrichment in the cool core of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies
Matsushita, Kyoko; Fukushima, Kotaro; Kobayashi, Shogo B.
Here, we present results from over 500 ksChandra and XMM-Newton observations of the cool core of the Centaurus cluster. We investigate the spatial distributions of the O, Mg, Si, S, Ar, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, and Ni abundances in the intracluster medium with CCD detectors, and those of N, O, Ne, Mg, Fe, and Ni with the Reflection Grating Spectrometer (RG…
Efficiently Imaging Accreting Protoplanets from Space: Reference Star Differential Imaging of the PDS 70 Planetary System Using the HST/WFC3 Archival PSF Library
Zhou, Yifan; Bowler, Brendan P.; Sanghi, Aniket
Accreting protoplanets provide key insights into how planets assemble from their natal protoplanetary disks. Recently, Zhou et al. (2021) used angular differential imaging (ADI) with Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 (HST/WFC3) to recover the young accreting planet PDS 70 b in F656N (Hα) at a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 7.9. In this …
ESO 137-002: a large spiral undergoing edge-on ram-pressure stripping with little star formation in the tail
Donahue, Megan; Combes, Françoise; Sun, Ming +11 more
Ram pressure stripping (RPS) is an important mechanism for galaxy evolution. In this work, we present results from HST and APEX observations of one RPS galaxy, ESO 137-002 in the closest rich cluster Abell 3627. The galaxy is known to host prominent X-ray and H α tails. The HST data reveal significant features indicative of RPS in the galaxy, incl…
