Mapping the Complex Kinematic Substructure in the TW Hya Disk
Andrews, Sean M.; Bae, Jaehan; Bergin, Edwin A. +6 more
We present ALMA observations of CO J = 2 - 1 and CS J = 5 - 4 emission from the disk around TW Hydrae. Both molecules trace a predominantly Keplerian velocity structure, although a slowing of the rotation velocity is detected at the outer edge of the disk beyond ≈140 au in CO emission. This was attributed to the enhanced pressure support from the …
Measuring Elemental Abundances of JWST Target Stars for Exoplanet Characterization. I. FGK Stars
Wang, Ji; Kolecki, Jared R.
With the launch of the JWST, we will obtain more precise data for exoplanets than ever before. However, these data can only inform and revolutionize our understanding of exoplanets when placed in the larger context of planet-star formation. Therefore, gaining a deeper understanding of their host stars is equally important and synergistic with the …
Characterisation of Galactic carbon stars and related stars from Gaia EDR3
de Laverny, P.; Figueras, F.; Romero-Gómez, M. +1 more
The third early Gaia data release (EDR3) has improved the accuracy of the astrometric parameters of numerous long-period variable (LPV) stars. Many of these stars are on the asymptotic giant branch (AGB), showing either a C-rich or O-rich envelope and are characterised by high luminosity, changing surface composition, and intense mass loss. This m…
The SAPP pipeline for the determination of stellar abundances and atmospheric parameters of stars in the core program of the PLATO mission
Kovalev, Mikhail; Casagrande, Luca; Serenelli, Aldo +25 more
We introduce the SAPP (Stellar Abundances and atmospheric Parameters Pipeline), the prototype of the code that will be used to determine parameters of stars observed within the core program of the PLATO space mission. The pipeline is based on the Bayesian inference and provides effective temperature, surface gravity, metallicity, chemical abundanc…
Clump survival and migration in VDI galaxies: an analytical model versus simulations and observations
Dekel, Avishai; Primack, Joel; Guo, Yicheng +3 more
We address the nature of the giant clumps in high-z galaxies that undergo violent disc instability, distinguishing between long-lived and short-lived clumps. We study the evolution of long-lived clumps during migration through the disc via an analytical model tested by simulations and confront theory with CANDELS-HST observations. The clump 'batht…
Dynamically Tagged Groups of Metal-poor Stars from the Best and Brightest Survey
Huang, Yang; Casey, Andrew R.; Beers, Timothy C. +9 more
Orbital characteristics based on Gaia Early Data Release 3 astrometric parameters are analyzed for ~4000 metal-poor stars ([Fe/H] ≤ -0.8) compiled from the Best and Brightest survey. Selected as metal-poor candidates based on broadband near- and far-IR photometry, 43% of these stars had medium-resolution (1200 ≲ R ≲ 2000) validation spectra obtain…
Still Brighter than Pre-explosion, SN 2012Z Did Not Disappear: Comparing Hubble Space Telescope Observations a Decade Apart
Foley, Ryan J.; Riess, Adam G.; Kirshner, Robert P. +10 more
Type Iax supernovae (SNe Iax) represent the largest class of peculiar white dwarf supernovae. The type Iax SN 2012Z in NGC 1309 is the only white dwarf supernova with a detected progenitor system in pre-explosion observations. Deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images taken before SN 2012Z show a luminous, blue source that we have interpreted as a …
HST/WFC3 transmission spectroscopy of the cold rocky planet TRAPPIST-1h
Gillon, M.; Wakeford, H. R.; Lewis, N. K. +4 more
Aims: TRAPPIST-1 is a nearby ultra-cool dwarf star transited by seven rocky planets. We observed three transits of its outermost planet, TRAPPIST-1h, using the G141 grism of the Wide Field Camera 3 instrument aboard the Hubble Space Telescope to place constraints on its potentially cold atmosphere.
Methods: In order to deal with the effe…
Deep ASKAP EMU Survey of the GAMA23 field: properties of radio sources
Prandoni, I.; Marchetti, L.; Vaccari, M. +19 more
We present the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) observations of the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA)-23h field. The survey was carried out at 887.5 MHz and covers an ~83 square deg field. We imaged the calibrated visibility data, taken as part of the Evolutionary Mapping of Universe Early Science Programme, using the latest vers…
TOI-3757 b: A Low-density Gas Giant Orbiting a Solar-metallicity M Dwarf
Kobulnicky, Henry A.; Cochran, William D.; Mahadevan, Suvrath +32 more
We present the discovery of a new Jovian-sized planet, TOI-3757 b, the lowest-density transiting planet known to orbit an M dwarf (M0V). This planet was discovered around a solar-metallicity M dwarf, using Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite photometry and confirmed with precise radial velocities from the Habitable-zone Planet Finder (HPF) and N…
