Possible Origin of a Newly Discovered GeV Gamma-Ray Source Fermi J1242.5+3236
Mo, Xiu-Rong; Luo, Ming-Hong; Tan, Hong-Bin +2 more
Based on the first 13.4 yr of Fermi science data in the energy range from 300 MeV to 500 GeV, we discovered a bright GeV gamma-ray source with a ~5.64σ detection, named Fermi J1242.5+3236, which has an offset of about 0.°0996 from a nearby star-forming galaxy NGC 4631. When using the 12 yr' data, the detection significance of Fermi J1242.5+3236 is…
Time-resolved spectral catalogue of INTEGRAL/SPI gamma-ray bursts
Greiner, Jochen; Biltzinger, Björn; Burgess, J. Michael
Since its launch in 2002, the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) satellite has detected many gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), which are summarised in the INTEGRAL Burst Alert System (IBAS) catalogue. This catalogue combines triggers from the data of the Imager on Board the INTEGRAL (IBIS) and of the anti-coincident shield (ACS) of …
Relating peak optical luminosity and orbital period of stellar-mass black holes in X-ray binaries
Maccarone, Thomas J.; Blackmon, Victoria A.
We compare the peak optical luminosity with the orbital period for a sample of 22 stellar-mass black hole candidates with good measurements of both quantities. We find that the peak absolute magnitude for the outbursts follows a linear relation with MV, peak = 3.48(± 0.85) - 3.89(± 0.91) logPorb, which corresponds to a $L_V \…
Tracing obscured galaxy build-up at high redshift using deep radio surveys
Matute, Israel; Amarantidis, Stergios; Farrah, Duncan +5 more
Context. A fundamental question of extra-galactic astronomy that is yet to be fully understood, concerns the evolution of the star formation rate (SFR) and supermassive black hole (SMBH) activity with cosmic time, as well as their interplay and how it impacts galaxy evolution. A primary focus that could shed more light on these questions is the st…
Broad-band X-ray spectral study of nuclear structure in local obscured radio galaxies
Ueda, Yoshihiro; Ricci, Claudio; Ogawa, Shoji +6 more
Radio galaxies are a key population to understand the importance of relativistic jets in active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback. We present the results of a systematic, broad-band X-ray spectral analysis of hard X-ray selected radio galaxies to investigate their nuclear structures. In this study, we focus on the seven most radio-loud, X-ray obscur…
Toward a 3D kinetic tomography of Taurus clouds. II. A new automated technique and its validation
Arenou, F.; Babusiaux, C.; Hottier, C. +4 more
Context. Three-dimensional (3D) kinetic maps of the Milky Way interstellar medium are an essential tool in studies of its structure and of star formation.
Aims: We aim to assign radial velocities to Galactic interstellar clouds now spatially localized based on starlight extinction and star distances from Gaia and stellar surveys.
Methods…
Physical parameters of stellar population in star formation regions of galaxies
Egorov, O. V.; Gusev, A. S.; Sakhibov, F. +2 more
We present the results of a study of young unresolved stellar groupings (clusters, OB associations, and their complexes) associated with H II regions, based on the coupling of spectroscopic, photometric and H α spectrophotometric observations of star formation regions. Along with our own observations, we use a part of the spectroscopic and H α dat…
Solar horizontal flow evaluation using neural network and numerical simulations with snapshot data
Katsukawa, Yukio; Ishikawa, Ryohtaroh T.; Masaki, Hiroyuki +1 more
We suggest a method that evaluates the horizontal velocity in the solar photosphere with easily observable values using a combination of neural network and radiative magnetohydrodynamics simulations. All three-component velocities of thermal convection on the solar surface have important roles in generating waves in the upper atmosphere. However, …
The first mm detection of a neutron star high-mass X-ray binary
Díaz Trigo, M.; Degenaar, N.; Sidoli, L. +9 more
Neutron stars accreting from OB supergiants are often divided between persistently and transiently accreting systems, called supergiant X-ray binaries (SgXBs) and supergiant fast X-ray transients (SFXTs). This dichotomy in accretion behaviour is typically attributed to systematic differences in the massive stellar wind, binary orbit, or magnetic f…
OT UMa and 2MASS J09251388+6424488: Two active contact eclipsing binary systems
Dong, A. -J.; Zhang, B.; Mei, K. -Y. +2 more
In this paper, new photometric light curves (LCs) of OT UMa and 2MASS J09251388+6424488 (=NSVS 2497620, hereafter NSVS 2497) in BVRcIc -bands are presented and analyzed by using the 2015 version of the Wilson-Devinney (W-D) code. We found that both of them are active contact eclipsing binaries (CEBs) . At the same time, we es…
