Plasma Flow Reversals in the Magnetotail and Their Implications on Substorm Models
Lui, A. T. Y.
Intervals of plasma flow reversals in the magnetotail are considered as times when the observing satellite encounters the process responsible for substorm disturbances. We consider the expected signatures during plasma flow reversals to evaluate the validity of two prevalent substorm models.
New developments in Indian space policies and programmes—The next five years
Sridhara Murthi, K. R.; Bhaskaranarayana, A.; Madhusudana, H. N.
Over past four decades Indian space programme has systematically acquired capabilities in space technologies and implemented its programmes with a high level of focus on societal applications. It is developed into a multi-dimensional programme where its strategy is directed towards diverse stake holders and actors such as government, users and ben…
Observation of Langmuir waves in the solar wind and the role of the antenna effective length
Pickett, J. S.; Souček, J.; Santolík, O. +3 more
Recently it was shown that in resonance regions the antenna effective length can exceed its physical length. Here we show that this happens in reception of Langmuir waves in a streaming solar wind and we discuss the relevant observations of narrow band emissions observed by CLUSTER II.
The mid-UV population of the nucleus and the bulk of the post-merger NGC 3610
Buson, L. M.
Context. The very center (r ≪ re) of NGC 3610, a clearly disturbed giant elliptical that is generally assumed to be a post-merger remnant, appears dominated in the mid-UV (2500-3200 Å spectral region) by a stellar population that is markedly different from that dominating the bulk of its stellar body.
Aims: We make use of the mid-U…
Effect of Fir Fluxes on Constraining Properties of YSOs
Lee, Jeong-Eun; Jeong, Woong-Seob; Ha, Ji-Sung Ha
Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) in the early evolutionary stages are very embedded, and thus they emit most of their energy at long wavelengths such as far-infrared (FIR) and submillimeter (Submm). Therefore, the FIR observational data are very important to classify the accurate evolutionary stages of these embedded YSOs, and to better constrain thei…
Microvariability and fast variability of stars. I. standard stars
Arkharov, A. A.; Ruban, E. V.
This is a study of observations of the photometric quantities Vt and Bt, reported in the Hipparcos catalog, for 15 standard stars in order to search for microvariability and rapid variability in their emission. The microvariability is found to be characterized mainly by smooth fluctuations in the brightness. Changes in the magnitudes of the stars …
Statistical survey on the magnetic field in magnetotail current sheets: Cluster observations
Balogh, A.; Lucek, E.; Zhao, Jin Rong +2 more
The distribution properties of the magnetic field in magnetotail current sheets have been explored statistically with the magnetic measurement data of the Cluster mission from June to November of the years 2001-2005. It is found that, on average, the strength of the magnetic field and its Bz component in the current sheet are weaker in the region …
