TOI-1670 b and c: An Inner Sub-Neptune with an Outer Warm Jupiter Unlikely to Have Originated from High-eccentricity Migration
Latham, David W.; Quinn, Samuel N.; Cochran, William D. +38 more
We report the discovery of two transiting planets around the bright (V = 9.9 mag) main-sequence F7 star TOI-1670 by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. TOI-1670 b is a sub-Neptune ( ${R}_{{\rm{b}}}={2.06}_{-0.15}^{+0.19}$ R ⊕) on a 10.9 day orbit, and TOI-1670 c is a warm Jupiter ( ${R}_{{\rm{c}}}={0.987}_{-0.025}^{+0.025}$ R
Herschel-ATLAS Data Release III: near-infrared counterparts in the South Galactic Pole field - another 100 000 submillimetre galaxies
Ivison, R. J.; Negrello, M.; Dunne, L. +6 more
In this paper, we present the third data release (DR3) of the Herschel Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey (H-ATLAS). We identify likely near-infrared counterparts to submillimetre sources in the South Galactic Pole (SGP) field using the VISTA VIKING survey. We search for the most probable counterparts within 15 arcsec of each Herschel sourc…
X-ray variability of HD 189733 across eight years of XMM-Newton observations
Micela, G.; Sciortino, S.; Pillitteri, I. +2 more
The characterization of exoplanets, their formation, evolution, and chemical changes is tightly linked to our knowledge of their host stars. In particular, stellar X-rays and UV emission have a strong impact on the dynamical and chemical evolution of planetary atmospheres. We analyzed 25 XMM-Newton observations encompassing about eight years and t…
The Pristine Inner Galaxy Survey (PIGS) - IV. A photometric metallicity analysis of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy
Lewis, Geraint F.; Buder, Sven; Zucker, Daniel B. +15 more
We present a comprehensive metallicity analysis of the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy (Sgr dSph) using Pristine CaHK photometry. We base our member selection on Gaia EDR3 astrometry, applying a magnitude limit at G0 = 17.3, and our population study on the metallicity-sensitive photometry from the Pristine Inner Galaxy Survey (PIGS)…
The peculiar spectral evolution of the new X-ray transient MAXI J0637-430
Huang, Y.; Zhang, S.; Soria, R. +15 more
We studied the transient Galactic black hole candidate MAXI J0637-430 with data from Insight-HXMT, Swift, and XMM-Newton. The broad-band X-ray observations from Insight-HXMT help us constrain the power-law component. MAXI J0637-430 is located at unusually high Galactic latitude; if it belongs to the Galactic thick disc, we suggest a most likely di…
Warm Absorbers in the Radiation-driven Fountain Model of Low-mass Active Galactic Nuclei
Wada, Keiichi; Ueda, Yoshihiro; Mizumoto, Misaki +1 more
To investigate the origins of the warm absorbers in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), we study the ionization-state structure of the radiation-driven fountain model in a low-mass AGN and calculate the predicted X-ray spectra utilizing the spectral synthesis code Cloudy. The spectra show many absorption and emission line features originating in the ou…
Hubble Space Telescope Detection of the Nucleus of Comet C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein)
Jewitt, David; Mutchler, Max J.; Hui, Man-To +1 more
We present a high-resolution observation of the distant comet C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein) using the Hubble Space Telescope on 2022 January 8. The signal of the nucleus was successfully isolated by means of a nucleus extraction technique, with an apparent V-band magnitude measured to be 21.65 ± 0.11, corresponding to an absolu…
The role of highly vibrationally excited H2 initiating the nitrogen chemistry. Quantum study and 3σ detection of NH emission in the Orion Bar PDR
Goicoechea, Javier R.; Roncero, Octavio
The formation of hydrides by gas-phase reactions between H2 and a heavy element atom is a very selective process. Reactions with ground-state neutral carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur atoms are very endoergic and have high energy barriers because the H2 molecule has to be fragmented before a hydride bond is formed. In cold…
Is there a sub-parsec-scale jet base in the nearby dwarf galaxy NGC 4395?
Ho, Luis C.; Paragi, Zsolt; Nyland, Kristina +6 more
NGC 4395 is a dwarf galaxy at a distance of about 4.3 Mpc (scale: ~0.021 pc mas-1). It hosts an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH) with a mass between ~104 and ~105 solar masses. The early radio observations of NGC 4395 with the very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) network, High Sensitivity Array (HSA), at 1.4…
Measuring chemical abundances in AGN from infrared nebular lines: HII-CHI-MISTRY-IR for AGN
Pérez-Díaz, Borja; Pérez-Montero, Enrique; Fernández-Ontiveros, Juan A. +1 more
Context. Future and ongoing infrared and radio observatories such as JWST, METIS, and ALMA will increase the amount of rest-frame IR spectroscopic data for galaxies by several orders of magnitude. While studies of the chemical composition of the interstellar medium (ISM) based on optical observations have been widely spread over decades for star-f…
