Venus OH nightglow distribution based on VIRTIS limb observations from Venus Express
Drossart, P.; Piccioni, G.; Gérard, J. -C. +1 more
The full set of VIRTIS-M limb observations of the OH Venus nightglow has been analyzed to determine its characteristics. Based on 3328 limb profiles, we find that the mean peak intensity along the line of sight of the OH(Δv = 1 sequence) is 0.35-0.21+0.53 MR and is located at 96.4 ± 5 km. The emission is highly variable and n…
Solar wind turbulent spectrum from MHD to electron scales
Saur, J.; Alexandrova, O.; Schwartz, S. J. +5 more
Turbulent spectra of magnetic fluctuations in the free solar wind are studied from MHD to electron scales using Cluster observations. We discuss the problem of the instrumental noise and its influence on the measurements at the electron scales. We confirm the presence of a curvature of the spectrum ~expkρe over the broad frequency range…
Physical properties of the Sh2-104 H II region as seen by Herschel
Miville-Deschênes, M. -A.; Boulanger, F.; Abergel, A. +46 more
Context. Sh2-104 is a Galactic H ii region with a bubble morphology, detected at optical and radio wavelengths. It is considered the first observational confirmation of the collect-and-collapse model of triggered star-formation.
Aims: We aim to analyze the dust and gas properties of the Sh2-104 region to better constrain its effect on local f…
Oscillation mode lifetimes of red giants observed during the initial and first anticentre long run of CoRoT
Baudin, F.; Chaplin, W. J.; De Ridder, J. +5 more
Context. Long timeseries of data increase the frequency resolution in the power spectrum. This allows for resolving stochastically excited modes with long mode lifetimes, as well as features that are close together in frequency. The CoRoT fields observed during the initial run and second long run partly overlap, and stars in this overlapping field…
Using the 1.6 µm Bump to Study Rest-frame Near-infrared-selected Galaxies at Redshift 2
Sawicki, Marcin; Sorba, Robert
We explore the feasibility and limitations of using the 1.6 µm bump as a photometric redshift indicator and selection technique, and use it to study the rest-frame H-band galaxy luminosity and stellar mass functions (SMFs) at redshift z ~ 2. We use publicly available Spitzer/IRAC images in the GOODS fields and find that color selection in th…
The Lada Terra rise and Quetzalpetlatl Corona: A region of long-lived mantle upwelling and recent volcanic activity on Venus
Head, James W.; Ivanov, Mikhail A.
Quetzalpetlatl Corona (∼850 km in diameter) and Boala Corona (∼350 km×250 km in diameter), are both situated within the Lada Terra rise, a prominent ∼2000-km-wide circular topographic feature rising ∼2.5-3 km above the mean planetary radius in the southern hemisphere of Venus, south of the Lavinia Planitia lowlands. Together these features form a …
The Abundance Pattern in the Hot ISM of NGC 4472: Insights and Anomalies
Loewenstein, Michael; Davis, David S.
Important clues to the chemical and dynamical history of elliptical galaxies are encoded in the abundances of heavy elements in the X-ray emitting plasma. We derive the hot interstellar medium abundance pattern in inner (0-2.3 Re ) and outer (2.3-4.6Re ) regions of NGC 4472 from analysis of Suzaku spectra, supported by analys…
High spectral resolution infrared studies of Titan: Winds, temperature, and composition
Fast, Kelly E.; Sonnabend, Guido; Hewagama, Tilak +7 more
The Cassini Huygens mission provides a unique opportunity to combine ground-based and spacecraft investigations to increase our understanding of chemical and dynamical processes in Titan's atmosphere. Spectroscopic measurements from both vantage points enable retrieving global wind structure, temperature structure, and atmospheric composition. An …
PEACE Data in the Cluster Active Archive
Wilson, R. J.; Fazakerley, A. N.; West, M. +4 more
We describe the data products of the Cluster Plasma Electron and Current Experiment (PEACE) instruments which have been produced for the Cluster Active Archive. This article is intended to introduce the PEACE instruments, the measured data and the data products provided through the CAA. We aim to help the researcher to choose the data products mos…
Hyperluminous infrared galaxies from IIFSCz
Wang, Lingyu; Rowan-Robinson, Michael
We present a catalogue of 179 hyperluminous infrared galaxies (HLIRGs) from the Imperial IRAS-FSS Redshift (IIFSCz) Catalogue. Of the 92 with detections in at least two far-infrared bands, 62 are dominated by an M82-like starburst, 22 by an Arp 220-like starburst and eight by an active galactic nucleus (AGN) dust torus. On the basis of previous gr…
