The Gravitational Lens-Galaxy Group Connection. II. Groups Associated with B2319+051 and B1600+434
DOI: 10.1086/519238 Bibcode: 2007AJ....134..668A

Auger, M. W.; Fassnacht, C. D.; Lubin, L. M. +2 more

We report on the results of a spectroscopic survey of the environments of the gravitational lens systems CLASS B1600+434 (zl=0.41,zs=1.59) and CLASS B2319+051 (zl=0.62). The B1600+434 system has a time delay measured for it, and we find that the system lies in a group with a velocity dispersion of 90 km s-1

Spatially resolved cloud structure on Uranus: Implications of near-IR adaptive optics imaging
DOI: 10.1016/j.icarus.2007.07.017 Bibcode: 2007Icar..192..527S

Sromovsky, L. A.; Fry, P. M.

Seven-band near-IR adaptive optics imaging of Uranus by the Keck II telescope during 2004, with the assistance of selected Hubble Space Telescope images, provides new constraints on the uranian vertical cloud structure and CH 4 mixing ratio, after tuned deconvolutions are applied to remove significant limb darkening distortions. The mos…

The Fourth Positive System of Carbon Monoxide in the Hubble Space Telescope Spectra of Comets
DOI: 10.1086/522328 Bibcode: 2007ApJ...670.1473L

Weaver, Harold A.; Feldman, Paul D.; Lupu, Roxana E. +1 more

The rich A1Π-X1Σ+ system of carbon monoxide accounts for most spectral features seen in long-slit HST STIS observations of comets 153P/Ikeya-Zhang, C/2001 Q4 (NEAT), and C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR), as well as in the HST GHRS spectrum of comet C/1996 B2 (Hyakutake). A detailed CO fluorescence model is developed …

On waves in incompressible Hall magnetohydrodynamics
DOI: 10.1017/S0022377806006180 Bibcode: 2007JPlPh..73..723S

Belmont, Gérard; Sahraoui, Fouad; Galtier, Sébastien

Hall magnetohydrodynamics (HMHD) is a mono-fluid approximation extending the validity domain of the ordinary MHD system to spatial scales down to a fraction of the ion skin depth or frequencies comparable to the ion gyrofrequency. In the paper by Galtier (2006 J. Plasma Physics), an incompressible limit of the HMHD system is used for developing a …

Small-Scale Magnetic-Flux Emergence Observed with Hinode Solar Optical Telescope
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/59.sp3.S649 Bibcode: 2007PASJ...59S.649O

Matsumoto, Takuma; Shibata, Kazunari; Tsuneta, Saku +14 more

We observed small-scale magnetic-flux emergence in a sunspot moat region by the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) aboard the Hinode satellite. We analyzed filtergram images observed at wavelengths of Fe 6302Å, G band, and CaII H. In Stokes I images of Fe 6302Å, emerging magnetic flux was recognized as dark lanes. In the G band, they showed to be their…

X-Ray, UV, and Optical Observations of Supernova 2006bp with Swift: Detection of Early X-Ray Emission
DOI: 10.1086/518466 Bibcode: 2007ApJ...664..435I

Campana, S.; Pian, E.; Greiner, J. +21 more

We present results on the X-ray and optical/UV emission from the Type II-P supernova (SN) 2006bp and the interaction of the SN shock with its environment, obtained with the X-Ray Telescope (XRT) and UV/Optical Telescope (UVOT) on board Swift. SN 2006bp is detected in X-rays at a 4.5 σ level of significance in the merged XRT data from days 1 to 12 …

Spectral Evolution of NGC 1313 X-2: Evidence against the Cool Disk Model
DOI: 10.1086/518309 Bibcode: 2007ApJ...660L.113F

Feng, Hua; Kaaret, Philip

The presence of a cool multicolor disk component with an inner disk temperature kT=~0.1-0.3 keV at a luminosity L>1040 ergs s-1 has been interpreted as evidence that the ultraluminous X-ray source NGC 1313 X-2 harbors an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH). The temperature of a disk component should vary with luminosity as…

PPAK integral field spectroscopy survey of the Orion nebula. Data release
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361:20066620 Bibcode: 2007A&A...465..207S

Alves, J.; Sánchez, S. F.; Martín-Gordón, D. +3 more

Aims:We present a low-resolution spectroscopic survey of the Orion nebula. The data are released for public use. We show the possible applications of this dataset analyzing some of the main properties of the nebula.
Methods: We perform an integral field spectroscopy mosaic of an area of ~5 arcmin× 6 arcmin centered on the Trapezium region of t…

Interference in a quantum dot molecule embedded in a ring interferometer
DOI: 10.1088/1367-2630/9/5/111 Bibcode: 2007NJPh....9..111I

Ihn, Thomas; Sigrist, Martin; Ensslin, Klaus +2 more

Interference experiments are presented involving electronic quantum transport through an artificial quantum dot molecule in the Coulomb blockade regime embedded in a ring interferometer. Full tunability and the high stability of the structure allowed the transmission phase through this system, spin-related interference phenomena, and Fano-type int…

The Look-back Time Evolution of Far-Ultraviolet Flux from the Brightest Cluster Elliptical Galaxies at z < 0.2
DOI: 10.1086/518125 Bibcode: 2007ApJS..173..607R

Rey, Soo-Chang; Schawinski, Kevin; Heckman, Timothy M. +28 more

We present the GALEX UV photometry of the elliptical galaxies in Abell clusters at moderate redshifts (z<0.2) for the study of the look-back time evolution of the UV upturn phenomenon. The brightest elliptical galaxies (Mr<~-22) in 12 remote clusters are compared with the nearby giant elliptical galaxies of comparable optical lumi…
