An INTEGRAL overview of High-Mass X-ray Binaries: classes or transitions?
Sidoli, L.; Paizis, A.
We analysed in a systematic way the public INTEGRAL observations spanning from December 2002 to September 2016, to investigate the hard X-ray properties of about 60 High Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs). We considered both persistent and transient sources, hosting either a Be star (Be/XRBs) or a blue supergiant companion (SgHMXBs, including Supergiant …
A catalogue of clusters of galaxies identified from all sky surveys of 2MASS, WISE, and SuperCOSMOS
Han, J. L.; Wen, Z. L.; Yang, F.
We identify 47 600 clusters of galaxies from photometric data of Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), and SuperCOSMOS, among which 26 125 clusters are recognized for the first time and mostly in the sky outside the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) area. About 90 per cent of massive clusters of M500
The Excited Spin State of 1I/2017 U1 ‘Oumuamua
Wainscoat, Richard J.; Weaver, Harold A.; Buie, Marc W. +15 more
We show that ‘Oumuamua’s excited spin could be in a high-energy long axis mode (LAM) state, which implies that its shape could be far from the highly elongated shape found in previous studies. CLEAN and ANOVA algorithms are used to analyze ‘Oumuamua’s lightcurve using 818 observations over 29.3 days. Two fundamental periodicities are found at freq…
Near-infrared High-resolution Imaging Polarimetry of FU Ori-type Objects: Toward a Unified Scheme for Low-mass Protostellar Evolution
Henning, Thomas; Fu, Guangwei; Dong, Ruobing +14 more
We present near-IR imaging polarimetry of five classical FU Ori-type objects (FU Ori, V1057 Cyg, V1515 Cyg, V1735 Cyg, Z CMa) with an ∼0.″1 resolution observed using HiCIAO+AO188 at the Subaru Telescope. We observed scattered light associated with circumstellar dust around four of them (i.e., all but V1515 Cyg). Their polarized intensity distribut…
Massive 70 µm quiet clumps - II. Non-thermal motions driven by gravity in massive star formation?
Peretto, N.; Billot, N.; Fuller, G. A. +5 more
The dynamic activity in massive star-forming regions prior to the formation of bright protostars is still not fully investigated. In this work, we present observations of HCO+ J = 1-0 and N2H+ J = 1-0 made with the IRAM 30 m telescope towards a sample of 16 Herschel-identified massive 70 µm quiet clumps assoc…
The stellar mass function of galaxies in Planck-selected clusters at 0.5 < z < 0.7: new constraints on the timescale and location of satellite quenching
Muzzin, Adam; Dahle, Håkon; Aussel, Hervé +4 more
We study the abundance of star-forming and quiescent galaxies in a sample of 21 clusters at 0.5 < z < 0.7, detected with the Planck satellite. Thanks to the large volume probed by Planck, these systems are extremely massive, and provide an excellent laboratory to study any environmental effects on their galaxies' properties. We measure the c…
Tensile strength of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko nucleus material from overhangs
Jorda, L.; Lara, L. M.; Bertaux, J. -L. +52 more
We directly measured twenty overhanging cliffs on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko extracted from the latest shape model and estimated the minimum tensile strengths needed to support them against collapse under the comet's gravity. We find extremely low strengths of around 1 Pa or less (1 to 5 Pa, when scaled to a metre length). The …
Homologous Large-amplitude Nonlinear Fast-mode Magnetosonic Waves Driven by Recurrent Coronal Jets
Liu, Yu; Liu, Ying D.; Shen, Yuandeng +3 more
The detailed observational analysis of a homologous extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) wave event is presented to study the driving mechanism and the physical property of the EUV waves, combining high-resolution data taken by the Solar Dynamics Observatory and the Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory. It is observed that four homologous EUV waves origin…
Ionised gas structure of 100 kpc in an over-dense region of the galaxy group COSMOS-Gr30 at z 0.7
Kollatschny, W.; Richard, J.; Brinchmann, J. +16 more
We report the discovery of a 104 kpc2 gaseous structure detected in [O II]λλ3727, 3729 in an over-dense region of the COSMOS-Gr30 galaxy group at z ~ 0.725 with deep MUSE Guaranteed Time Observations. We estimate the total amount of diffuse ionised gas to be of the order of (~5 ± 3) × 1010 M⊙ and explore…
First Observations of the Magnetic Field inside the Pillars of Creation: Results from the BISTRO Survey
Pattle, Kate; Ward-Thompson, Derek; Berry, David +7 more
We present the first high-resolution, submillimeter-wavelength polarimetric observations of—and thus direct observations of the magnetic field morphology within—the dense gas of the Pillars of Creation in M16. These 850 µm observations, taken as part of the B-Fields in Star-forming Region Observations Survey (BISTRO) using the POL-2 polarime…
