DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2966.2005.08862.x Bibcode: 2005MNRAS.358.1423O

We present an analysis of Chandra X-ray observations of a sample of eight dwarf starburst galaxies (IZw18, VIIZw403, NGC1569, NGC3077, NGC4214, NGC4449, NGC5253 and He2-10). Extended, diffuse X-ray emission is detected in all but two of the objects. Unresolved sources were found within all dwarf galaxies (total: 55 sources). These point sources ar…

The evolution of actively star-forming galaxies in the mid-infrared
DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2966.2005.09678.x Bibcode: 2005MNRAS.364.1286V

Panuzzo, P.; Bressan, A.; Chavez, M. +3 more

In this paper we analyze the evolution of actively star-forming galaxies in the mid-infrared (MIR). This spectral region, characterized by continuum emission by hot dust and by the presence of strong emission features generally ascribed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules, is the most strongly affected by the heating processes assoc…

A Hubble Space Telescope Search for Substellar Companions in the Young Cluster IC 348
DOI: 10.1086/429154 Bibcode: 2005ApJ...623.1141L

Luhman, K. L.; McLeod, K. K.; Goldenson, N.

We present the results of a search for substellar companions to members of the star-forming cluster IC 348. Using the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 on board the Hubble Space Telescope, we have obtained deep, high-resolution images of the cluster through the F791W and F850LP filters. These data encompass 150 known members of IC 348, including 14 pr…

The 1-50 keV spectral and timing analysis of IGR J18027-2016: an eclipsing, high mass X-ray binary
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361:20052937 Bibcode: 2005A&A...439..255H

Hill, A. B.; Knigge, C.; Walter, R. +9 more

We report the association of the INTEGRAL source IGR J18027-2016 with the BeppoSAX source SAX J1802.7-2017. IGR J18027-2016 is seen to be a weak, persistent source by the IBIS/ISGRI instrument on board INTEGRAL with an average source count rate of 0.58 counts s-1 ( 6.4 mCrab) in the 20-40 keV band. Timing analysis performed on the ISGRI…

Distant Red Galaxies in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field
DOI: 10.1086/430346 Bibcode: 2005ApJ...624L...9T

Toft, S.; van Dokkum, P.; Bouwens, R. J. +4 more

We take advantage of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field data to study the rest-frame optical and UV morphologies of the novel population of distant red galaxies (DRGs). Six galaxies with J-Ks>2.3 are found to Ks=21.5, five of which have photometric redshifts zphot>~2, corresponding to a surface density of 0.9 arcmin…

A New View of the Circumstellar Environment of SN 1987A
DOI: 10.1086/430396 Bibcode: 2005ApJ...627..888S

Crotts, Arlin P. S.; Lawrence, Stephen S.; Sugerman, Ben E. K. +2 more

We summarize the analysis of a uniform set of both previously known and newly discovered scattered-light echoes, detected within 30" of SN 1987A in 10 years of optical imaging, and with which we have constructed the most complete three-dimensional model of the progenitor's circumstellar environment. Surrounding the SN is a richly structured bipola…

First VLTI/MIDI observations of a Be star: Alpha Arae
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361:20041954 Bibcode: 2005A&A...435..275C

Meilland, A.; Robbe-Dubois, S.; Domiciano de Souza, A. +12 more

We present the first VLTI/MIDI observations of the Be star alpha Ara (HD 158 427), showing a nearly unresolved circumstellar disk in the N band. The interferometric measurements made use of the UT1 and UT3 telescopes. The projected baselines were 102 and 74 meters with position angles of 7 ° and 55°, respectively. These measurements put an upper l…

Methods for the analysis of data from the Planetary Fourier Spectrometer on the Mars Express Mission
DOI: 10.1016/j.pss.2005.01.006 Bibcode: 2005P&SS...53.1017G

Ignatiev, N. I.; Zasova, L. V.; Formisano, V. +4 more

This work presents an algorithm for the scientific analysis of individual calibrated measurements from the Planetary Fourier spectrometer (PFS). The instrument, included in the scientific payload of the ESA Mars Express mission to Mars, acquires spectra in the range between 250 and 8200 cm -1, with a sampling step of ∼1 cm -1

Probing the Kinematics of the Narrow-Line Region in Seyfert Galaxies with Slitless Spectroscopy: Observational Results
DOI: 10.1086/426372 Bibcode: 2005AJ....129...73R

Gull, T. R.; Kraemer, S. B.; Crenshaw, D. M. +5 more

We present slitless spectra of 10 Seyfert galaxies observed with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The spectra cover the [O III] λλ4959, 5007 emission lines at a spectral resolving power of λ/Δλ~9000 and a spatial resolution of ~0.1". We compare the slitless spectra with previous HST narrowband images to…

Multiwavelength Observations of Radio Galaxy 3C 120 with XMM-Newton
DOI: 10.1086/425894 Bibcode: 2005ApJ...618..139O

Malkan, M. A.; Page, M. J.; Tornikoski, M. +5 more

We present XMM-Newton observations of the radio galaxy 3C 120. Contemporaneous radio, millimeter-wave, and optical data provide additional constraints on the spectral energy distribution and physical state of the active galactic nucleus. The hard X-ray spectrum contains a marginally resolved Fe I Kα emission line with FWHM=9000+/-3000 km s-1<…
