A photometric-spectroscopic study of the infrared-excess eclipsing binary V2364 Cyg
Jiang, Lin-Qiao; Dai, Hai-Feng; Wang, Shuang +2 more
The eclipsing binary V2364 Cyg is an A7V-type contact binary with a period of 0.5921 d. We present six spectra from LAMOST and BVRc light curves (LCs), which are simultaneously analyzed to obtain the absolute physical parameters. The first light maxima are brighter than the second ones by up to $\mathrm{0}_{.}^\mathrm{m}{038}$ , $\mathr…
The compound stream event of March 20-25, 2011 as measured by the STEREO B spacecraft
Morgan, Huw; Al-Shakarchi, Duraid A.
The interaction of interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICME) with each other and with co-rotating interaction regions (CIR) changes their configuration, dynamics, magnetic field and plasma characteristics and can make space weather forecasting difficult. During the period of March 20–25, 2011, the Solar Terrestrial Relation Observatory (STEREO …
New astrometric positions of the Jovian irregular satellites Elara and Pasiphae in 2016-2018
Cheng, X.; Zhang, H. Y.; Yan, D. +5 more
A total of 372 astrometric positions of Jovian irregular satellites Elara and Pasiphae were obtained during three successive oppositions in 2016, 2017, and 2018, by 1 m telescope at Yunnan Observatory. Based on Gaia DR2 catalogue, 196 new positions of Elara and 176 new positions of Pasiphae were collected. We compared our observations to the theor…
The HD 217107 planetary system: Twenty years of radial velocity measurements
Kane, Stephen R.; Horner, Jonathan; Eastman, Jason D. +13 more
The hot Jupiter HD 217107 b was one of the first exoplanets detected using the radial velocity (RV) method, originally reported in the literature in 1999. Today, precise RV measurements of this system span more than 20 years, and there is clear evidence of a longer-period companion, HD 217107 c. Interestingly, both the short-period planet (Pb…
Astrometric errors introduced by interpixel capacitive coupling in hybridized arrays
Baum, Stefi; Ninkov, Zoran; Donlon, Kevan
Interpixel capacitance (IPC) between adjacent pixels in hybridized arrays gives rise to an electrostatic cross talk. This cross talk causes MTF degradation and blurring of images or spectra collected using these devices. As pixel size is driven down from the 18-µm pixel pitch of the H2RG read out circuits to the 10- or 15-µm H4RGs IPC …
The one that got away: a unique eclipse in the young brown dwarf Roque 12
Scholz, Aleks; Eislöffel, Jochen; Froebrich, Dirk +1 more
We report the discovery of a deep, singular eclipse of the bona fide brown dwarf Roque 12, a substellar member of the Pleiades. The eclipse was 0.65mag deep, lasted 1.3h, and was observed with two telescopes simultaneously in October 2002. No further eclipse was recorded, despite continuous monitoring with Kepler/K2 over 70d in 2015. There is tent…
Fast quasi-periodic oscillations in the eclipsing polar VV Puppis from VLT and XMM-Newton observations
Dhillon, V. S.; Bonnet-Bidaud, J. M.; Marsh, T. R. +7 more
We present high time resolution optical photometric data of the polar VV Puppis obtained simultaneously in three filters (u', HeII λ4686, r') with the ULTRACAM camera mounted at the ESO-VLT telescope. An analysis of a long 50 ks XMM-Newton observation of the source, retrieved from the database, is also provided. Quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) …
Characterizing some Gaia Alerts with LAMOST and SDSS
Liu, X.; Pursimo, T.; Dennefeld, M. +2 more
The ESA-Gaia satellite is regularly producing Alerts on objects where photometric variability has been detected after several passages over the same region of the sky. The physical nature of these objects has often to be determined with the help of complementary observations from ground-based facilities. We have compared the list of Gaia Alerts (f…
Discrete X-Ray Sources in Galaxy Clusters
Tugay, A. V.; Zadorozhna, L. V.; Shevchenko, S. Yu.
Current studies of extragalactic X-ray sources using data from orbital observatory XMM- Newton are at the front line of X-ray astronomy. Resolution capacity of the observatory instruments enable to detect separate X-ray sources in the close galaxies. In this study we used data from recently published 4XMM-DR9 catalog. This catalog contains 550124 …
On the Relation between Diffuse Bands and Other Interstellar Features
Krełowski, J.; Galazutdinov, G. A.; Siebenmorgen, R.
We discuss possible relations between different constituents of interstellar clouds, such as gas atoms (Fe I), simple molecular species (CH, CN), and the carriers of the puzzling diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs 5780, 5797, 5850 Å) as well as dust grains. We exemplify that abundances of carriers of these spectral features, revealed by the Doppler …
