Atomic data and uncertainties with PyAtomDB
Foster, Adam R.
The Atomic Database project (AtomDB) atomic database provides access to a curated collection of atomic data, along with tools that convert this data into emissivities used in many analysis tools. We present the outline of some of the tools now available for accessing AtomDB using the new Python interface, developed to handle the larger datasets th…
Global-scale brittle plastic rheology at the cometesimals merging of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Naletto, Giampiero; Francheschi, M.; Penasa, Luca +12 more
Local Least Squares Analysis of Auroral Currents
He, Maosheng; Vogt, Joachim; Bunescu, Costel +1 more
Multi-spacecraft probing of geospace allows the study of physical structures on spatial scales dictated by orbital and instrumental parameters. This chapter highlights multi-point array analysis methods for constellations of two or three spacecraft such as Swarm, and also discusses multi-scale techniques for the geometrical characterisation of aur…
Source region identification and geophysical effects of stealth coronal mass ejections
Fainshtein, V. G.; Zagainova, Iu. S.; Gromova, L. I. +1 more
We use the example of two Stealth-type coronal mass ejections (stealth CMEs) registered by LASCO C2 on the quiescent Sun on 16 June 2010 and in the active region NOAA 11520 7 July 2012 to demonstrate that these mass ejections emerged in a lower-coronal area where an intense short-term radiation burst was registered in several extreme ultraviolet c…
The Relaxation of Reconnected Open Magnetic Field Lines in the Earth's Magnetosphere
Xu, Qi; Xu, Xiaojun; Wang, Jing +3 more
Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental and important physical process that can release magnetic energy and change magnetic topology. A statistic study of reconnected magnetic field lines has been carried out by Cluster spacecraft 1 during 58 current sheet crossing events. We calculated the values of $| {B}_{n}/B| $ at different distances from reco…
Physical and Chemical Properties of Galactic Global Clusters with Various Origins Identified from the Gaia DR2 Data
Marsakov, V. A.; Koval', V. V.; Gozha, M. L.
The differences in the relationships between the physical parameters and the chemical-element abundances in accreted globular star clusters and those formed inside the Galaxy have been investigated. The information on the supposed formation sites of the clusters based on the Gaia DR2 data is borrowed from the literature. Those sources estimate the…
Ultradense Gas at the Dusty Torus Scale in a Partially Obscured Quasar
Li, Zhenzhen; Zhou, Hongyan; Hao, Lei +5 more
We present detailed studies of the partially obscured quasar 2MASS J151653.23+190048.2 with continuous broadband spectrophotometry from near-infrared (NIR) through optical to ultraviolet (UV). The NIR and optical spectra show strong broad emission lines, while the UV spectrum is dominated by a set of rich intermediate-width emission lines (IELs). …
Search for Evolutionary Changes in the Period of the Classical Cepheid EV Aql
Berdnikov, L. N.
The reduction of all the available photometry for the Cepheid EV Aql has allowed its $O-C$ diagram spanning a time interval of 130 years to be constructed. This has made it possible to calculate the rate of evolutionary decrease in the period, $dP/dt=-33.2({±}{6.9})$ s yr${}^{-1}$, in agreement with the results of model calculations for the second…
Apex and Kinematical Structure of Castor and Ursa Major Moving Stellar Groups
Elsanhoury, W. H.
Based on space velocity components UVW and using a recent dataset for Castor and Ursa Major moving groups, we compute the apex position with two methods. Classical convergent procedures give (Acp, Dcp) = (807830, -172598; Castor, 298334, -346405; UMa) for Castor and Ursa Major groups. According to the AD-map method we deduce …
Chandra Resolves the Double FU Orionis System RNO 1B/1C in X-Rays
Skinner, Stephen L.; Güdel, Manuel
We present new Chandra X-ray observations of the close pair of young stars RNO 1B and 1C (6″ separation) located in the L1287 cloud. RNO 1B erupted in 1978-1990 and is classified as an FU Orionis star (FUor). RNO 1C also shows most of the properties of an FUor but no eruption has been seen yet. Only a few dozen FUors are known and the presence of …
