A Spectroscopic Analysis of the Hyades Cool Giants
Gray, David F.; Martinez, A.
High-resolution spectroscopic observations of the four cool giants in the Hyades cluster, taken at the Elginfield Observatory, are analyzed. The velocity of γ Tau between 2002 and 2009 is constant to a few m s-1 small variations, compatible with the planetary orbit, are seen for ɛ Tau. The primary-to-secondary mass ratio of θ 1
The activity of the symbiotic binary Z Andromedae and its latest outburst
Merc, J.; Gális, R.; Wolf, M. +2 more
Z Andromedae is a prototype of classical symbiotic variable stars. It is characterized by alternating of quiescent and active stages, the later ones are accompanied by changes in both photometry and spectral characteristics of this object. The current activity of Z And began in 2000, and the last outburst was recorded at the turn of years 2017 and…
Prospects for Extending the Mass-Metallicity Relation to Low Mass at High Redshift: A Case Study at z ∼ 1
Cameron, Alex J.; Henry, Alaina; Trenti, Michele +5 more
We report J-band MOSFIRE spectroscopy of a low-mass ({log}({M}* /{M}⊙ )={8.62}-0.06+0.10) star-forming galaxy at z = 0.997 showing the detection of [N II] and [S II] alongside a strong Hα line. We derive a gas-phase metallicity of {log}({{O}}/{{H}})={7.99}-0.23+0.13, placing this ob…
Spectrophotometric variegation of the layering in comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko as seen by OSIRIS
Lamy, P. L.; Lara, L. M.; Bertaux, J. -L. +40 more
Context. Between August 2014 and September 2016, the ESA space mission Rosetta escorted comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P) during its perihelion passage. The onboard OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) acquired high-resolution multispectral images of the cometary surface. These datasets allowed a characterization of the spectrophotometric variegat…
Suzaku observation of diffuse X-ray emission from a southwest region of the Carina Nebula
Hamaguchi, Kenji; Ezoe, Yuichiro; Ohashi, Takaya +2 more
A southwest region of the Carina Nebula was observed with the Suzaku observatory for 47ks in 2010 December. This region shows distinctively soft X-ray emission in the Chandra campaign observations. Suzaku clearly detects the diffuse emission above known foreground and background components between 0.4-5keV at the surface brightness of 3.3× 10^{-14…
BELA transmitter performance and pointing stability verification campaign at DLR-PF
Michaelis, H.; Kallenbach, R.; Hussmann, H. +4 more
BELA is the first European planetary laser altimeter and shall be launched onboard of ESA's Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) as part of the BepiColombo spacecraft in October 2018. The complete development of the instrument was done in collaboration with team members in Switzerland, Germany and Spain. The transmitter is also the first space-qualifie…

Hen 3-160 - the First Symbiotic Binary with Mira Variable S Star
Gromadzki, M.; Mikołajewska, J.; Iłkiewicz, K. +3 more
Hen 3-160 is reported in Belczyński et al. catalog as a symbiotic binary system with M7 giant donor. Using V- and I-band photometry collected over 20 years we have found that the giant is a Mira variable pulsating with 242.5-day period. The period-luminosity relation locates Hen 3-160 at the distance of about 9.4 kpc, and its Galactic coordinates …
A new method to determine the gravity field of small bodies from line-of-sight acceleration data
Barriot, Jean-Pierre; Rodriguez, J. Alexis P.; Yan, Jian-Guo +2 more
We present a new method to derive line-of-sight acceleration observables from spacecraft radio tracking data. The observables can be used to estimate the mass and gravity of a natural satellite as a spacecraft flyby. The corresponding observation model adapts to one-way and two/three-way tracking modes. As a test case for method validation and app…
On the saturation of acoustic mode frequencies at high solar activity
Rabello Soares, M. Cristina
Acoustic mode frequencies obtained by applying spherical harmonic decomposition to HMI, MDI, and GONG observations were analysed throughout the solar cycle. Evidence of a deviation from a linear relation with solar radio flux was found indicating a saturation effect at high solar activity. The Gompertz model, which is one of the most frequently us…
