Modeling the cometary environment using a fluid approach
Shou, Yinsi
Comets are believed to have preserved the building material of the early solar system and to hold clues to the origin of life on Earth. Abundant remote observations of comets by telescopes and the in-situ measurements by a handful of space missions reveal that the cometary environments are complicated by various physical and chemical processes amo…
C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) e 67/P Churyumov-Gerasimenko during 2015
Milani, G.
Among the many comets observed in 2015 by the Comet Section a review on the apparition of comet C/2014 (Lovejoy) and 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is presented. The first one was the brighter, reaching magnitude 4 and being visible by the naked eye. The second was faint but had a high scientific relevance being the target of the Rosetta mission.
Nonlinear evolution of oblique whistler waves in radiation belts
Sharma, R. P.; Sharma, Swati; Nandal, P. +1 more
Magnetic power spectrum and formation of coherent structures have been investigated in the present work applicable to Van Allen radiation belt. The nonlinear interaction of high frequency oblique whistler wave and low frequency magnetosonic wave has been investigated. Simulation was performed of the coupled equation of these two waves. The nonline…
Extrasolar planets and their hosts: A new X-ray research area
Schmitt, J. H. M. M.
The field of extrasolar planets has become one of the most lively and vibrant field of research in astrophysics. As is almost always the case in astrophysics, a multi-wavelength approach is required to fully explore and understand the properties of those planets. Also, X-ray astronomy plays an important role in this process. The host stars of esse…
An Iterative Pixel-Level Image Matching Method for Mars Mapping Using Approximate Orthophotos
Geng, X.; Xu, Q.; Xing, S. +1 more
Mars mapping is essential to the scientific research of the red planet. The special terrain characteristics of Martian surface can be used to develop the targeted image matching method. In this paper, in order to generate high resolution Mars DEM, a pixel-level image matching method for Mars orbital pushbroom images is proposed. The main strategie…

The Akari Deep Field South: Pushing to High Redshift
Clements, David L.
The AKARI Deep Field South (ADF-S) is a large extragalactic survey field that is covered by multiple instruments, from optical to far-IR and radio. I summarise recent results in this and related fields prompted by the release of the Herschel far-IR/submm images, including studies of cold dust in nearby galaxies, the identification of strongly lens…
