Suzaku observations of ejecta-dominated Galactic supernova remnant G346.6-0.2
DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2966.2011.18710.x Bibcode: 2011MNRAS.415..301S

Hudaverdi, M.; Ercan, E. N.; Sezer, A. +2 more

We present here the results of an X-ray analysis of Galactic supernova remnant G346.6-0.2 observed with Suzaku. K-shell emission lines of Mg, Si, S, Ca and Fe are detected clearly for the first time. Strong emission lines of Si and S imply that the X-ray emission nature of G346.6-0.2 is ejecta-dominated. The ejecta-dominated emission is well fitte…

Probing the ambient medium of GRB 090618 with XMM-Newton observations
DOI: 10.1111/j.1365-2966.2011.19350.x Bibcode: 2011MNRAS.418.1511C

Long gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) signal the death of massive stars. The afterglow emission can be used to probe the progenitor ambient through a detailed study of the absorption pattern imprinted by the circumburst material as well as the host galaxy interstellar medium on the continuum spectrum. This has been done at optical wavelengths with impressi…

Some properties of the development of the perturbed zone and shock preceding a coronal mass ejection
DOI: 10.1134/S1063772911110023 Bibcode: 2011ARep...55.1038E

Eselevich, M. V.; Eselevich, V. G.

SOHO/LASCO C2 and C3 data have been used to carry out a detailed study of the perturbed zone and shock that form as a coronal mass ejection (CME) moves away from the Sun, as a result of its interaction with the ambient solar wind. The event of January 4, 2002 is used as an example. The perturbed zone is most extensive along the direction of propag…

Hydroxyl airglow on Venus in comparison with Earth
DOI: 10.1016/j.pss.2010.05.004 Bibcode: 2011P&SS...59..974M

Drossart, P.; Piccioni, G.; Migliorini, A. +1 more

Hydroxyl nightglow is intensively studied in the Earth atmosphere, due to its coupling to the ozone cycle. Recently, it was detected for the first time also in the Venus atmosphere, thanks to the VIRTIS-Venus Express observations. The main Δ ν=1, 2 emissions in the infrared spectral range, centred, respectively, at 2.81 and 1.46 µm (which co…

Correlation between CME and Flare Parameters (with and without Type II Bursts)
DOI: 10.1007/s11207-011-9752-3 Bibcode: 2011SoPh..270..273S

Moon, Y. -J.; Shanmugaraju, A.; Vršnak, Bojan

CMEs and flares are the two energetic phenomena on the Sun responsible for generating shocks. Our main aim is to study the relation between the physical properties of CMEs and flares associated with and without type II radio bursts. We considered a set of 290 SOHO/LASCO CMEs associated with GOES X-ray flares observed during the period from January…

The Nature of Star Formation at 24 µm in the Group Environment at 0.3 <~ z <~ 0.55

Galaxy star formation rates (SFRs) are sensitive to the local environment; for example, the high-density regions at the cores of dense clusters are known to suppress star formation. It has been suggested that galaxy transformation occurs largely in groups, which are the intermediate step in density between field and cluster environments. In this p…

Observations and Orbital Analysis of the Giant White Dwarf Binary System HR 5692
DOI: 10.1088/0004-6256/141/5/144 Bibcode: 2011AJ....141..144S

We report spectroscopic observations of the red giant star HR 5692, previously known to be a binary system both from other spectroscopic work and from deviations in the astrometric motion detected by the Hipparcos satellite. Earlier International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) observations had shown the presence of a hot white dwarf companion to the g…

Context. Microwave (MW) and hard X-ray (HXR) data are thought to be powerful means of investigating the mechanisms of particle acceleration and precipitation in solar flares, reflecting different aspects of electron interaction with ambient particles in the presence of a magnetic field. Simultaneous simulation of HXR and MW emission with the same …
