The galactic gamma-ray source population
DOI: 10.1086/160935 Bibcode: 1983ApJ...268..111G

Godfrey, C. P.

A procedure has been developed to estimate the contribution to the galactic gamma-ray emission by discrete sources under the assumption that the sources are distributed spatially like the total emission, but without regard to the nature of the individual sources. In particular, an analytical method is developed for calculating the fraction of the …

Helium cyclotron emission from accreting magnetized neutron stars.
Bibcode: 1983A&A...121L...1A

Chitre, S. M.; Apparao, K. M. V.

The authors find that helium nuclei accreting onto magnetized neutron stars in strong X-ray sources can emit cyclotron radiation. In the case of the X-ray source 4U 0115+63, the He cyclotron line at 6 eV in the ultraviolet should be observable with the IUE satellite.

COS-B upper limits on gamma-ray emission from radio pulsars.
Bibcode: 1983ICRC....9...49B

Caraveo, P. A.; Bignami, G. F.; Strong, A. W. +13 more

The authors report on the results of a search for pulsed gamma-ray emission from old radio pulsars in the COS-B data in the energy range 50 MeV to 2 GeV. The analysis has been done by using either pulsar parameters obtained in simultaneous radio and gamma-ray observations or parameters which could be reliably derived by interpolation from radio ob…

Ultraviolet Variability of HD62001 - the Central Star of the Missing Nebula VORONTSOV-VELYAMINOV1-7
DOI: 10.1007/BF02714193 Bibcode: 1983JApA....4...59R

Rao, N. K.; Gilra, D. P.

IUE observations of HD 62001 do not confirm the ultraviolet variability of 0.15 mag seen from the ANS observations. These intriguing variations in ANS observations seem to be caused by a nearby (∼ 70 arcsec away) B star getting in and out of the field of view of the telescope, which had a jitter of 20 arcsec. There seems to be no evidence for the …

The Use of Gamma-Rays to Trace the Local Interstellar Hydrogen
DOI: 10.1007/BF00247091 Bibcode: 1983SSRv...36..267S

Strong, A. W.

COS-B data in the latitude range 11° <¦b¦ < 19° show the gamma-ray intensity to be closely correlated with the total line-of-sight absorption derived from galaxy counts. It is found that to a good approximation the gamma-ray intensity is proportional to the total gas column density, and on this basis a map of the angular distribution of loca…
