Evolution of Magnetic Nonpotentiality in NOAA AR 10486
Liu, Y.; Zhang, H.; Kurokawa, H. +2 more
The active region NOAA 10486 was one of the most flare-productive regions during solar cycle 23. In this paper, we focus our analysis on the daily evolution of magnetic nonpotentiality for this region from 2003 October 26 to October 30. Daily averaged values of three nonpotential parameters: magnetic shear angle, line-of-sight current, and current…

Spectral features of SKR observed by Cassini/RPWS: Frequency bandwidth, flux density and polarization
Lecacheux, Alain; Boudjada, Mohammed Y.; Galopeau, Patrick H. M.
We report on an analysis about the spectral shape of the Saturnian kilometric radiation (SKR) recorded by the RPWS/HFR experiment onboard the Cassini spacecraft. The SKR envelope is found to be very variable in timescales covering a large range, from hours to days. Despite this change, we proceed to a classification of the shape in the frequency r…
VLT/SINFONI integral field spectroscopy of the Super-antennae
Ivanov, V. D.; Reunanen, J.; Tacconi-Garman, L. E.
We present the results of H- and K-band very large telescope/Spectrograph for INtegral Field Observations in the Near Infrared (VLT/SINFONI) integral field spectroscopy of the Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxy (ULIRG) IRAS 19254-7245 (the Super-antennae), an interacting double galaxy system containing an embedded active galactic nuclei. Deep K-band sp…
The host galaxy of GRB 011121: morphology and spectral energy distribution
Pian, E.; Greiner, J.; Salvato, M. +3 more
Aims:We present a detailed study of the host galaxy of GRB 011121 (at z = 0.36) based on high-resolution imaging in 5 broad-band, optical and near-infrared filters with HST and VLT/ISAAC.
Methods: The surface brightness profile of this galaxy is best fitted by a Sersic law with index n ∼ 2-2.5 and a rather large effective radius (~7.5 kpc). Bo…
Jupiter, Saturn and the Pioneer anomaly: a planetary-based independent test
Iorio, Lorenzo
In this paper we use the ratio of the corrections to the standard Newtonian/Einsteinian secular precessions of the longitudes of perihelia of Jupiter and Saturn, recently estimated by the Russian astronomer E.V. Pitjeva by fitting almost one century of data with the EPM ephemerides, to make an independent, planetary-based test of the hypothesis th…
AKARI Detection of the Infrared-Bright Supernova Remnant B0104-72.3 in the Small Magellanic Cloud
Lee, H. M.; Jeong, W. -S.; Lee, M. G. +12 more
We present a serendipitous detection of the infrared-bright supernova remnant (SNR) B0104-72.3 is a middle-aged SNR interacting with molecular clouds, similar to the Galactic SNR IC 443. Our results highlight the potential of AKARI IRC observations in studying SNRs, especially for diagnosing SNR shocks.
SIM PlanetQuest Key Project Precursor Observations to Detect Gas Giant Planets around Young Stars
Metchev, Stanimir; Prato, L.; Herbst, William +10 more
We present a review of precursor observing programs for the SIM PlanetQuest Key Project devoted to detecting Jupiter-mass planets around young stars. In order to ensure that the stars in the sample are free of various sources of astrometric noise that might impede the detection of planets, we have initiated programs to collect photometry, high-con…
Dust and molecular content of the lensed quasar, MG0751+2716, at z = 3.2
Kneib, J. -P.; Bremer, M.; Alloin, D. +1 more
Context: Gravitational lenses offer unique opportunities to explore the molecular content around active galactic nuclei at high redshift, through the magnification and gain in angular resolution.
Aims: We study here the molecular and dust content of the high redshift (z=3.2), gravitationally lensed quasar MG0751+2716.
Methods: We used the …
Pickup Ions and Cosmic Rays from Dust in the Heliosphere
Schwadron, N. A.; Gloeckler, G.
The combination of recent observational and theoretical work has completed the catalog of the sources of heliospheric Pickup Ions (PUIs). These PUIs are the seed population for Anomalous Cosmic Rays (ACRs), which are accelerated to high energies at or beyond the Termination Shock (TS). For elements with high First Ionization Potentials (high-FIP a…
