Analysis of RGU Photometry in Selected Area 51
Bilir, S.; Karaali, S.; Buser, R.
A low-latitude anticenter field (l=189 °, b=+21 °) is investigated by using the full calibration tools of RGU photometry. The observed RGU data are reduced to the standard system and the separation of dwarfs and evolved stars is carried out by an empirical method. Stars are categorized into three metallicity classes, i.e. -0.25<[M/H]≤+0.50, $-1…

XX Ophiuchi in Deep Minimum after 37 Years
Sobotka, P.
XX Ophiuchi is a unique object, which is very difficult to classify. This star only slowly varied around the maximum magnitude (V approx 9 mag) during the past 37 years. In March 2004, the brightness started to fade by 0.2 mag per month. I stress the urgent need of the spectroscopic observations during this minimum.
Photometry of 20 eclipsing and ellipsoidal binary systems
Shobbrook, R. R.
A total of almost 2000 V observations of 20 eclipsing and ellipsoidal bright binary stars was collected between 1991 and 2001 for the purpose of determining more recent epoch ephemerides for the light curves than are available in the literature. The original purpose was to provide the Sydney University Stellar Interferometer (SUSI) with orbital pe…
Physical structure of the local interstellar medium
Linsky, J. L.; Redfield, S.; Wood, B. E.
The physical structure and morphology of the interstellar medium that surrounds our solar system directly effects the heliosphere and the interplanetary environment. High resolution ultraviolet absorption spectra of nearby stars and the intervening interstellar medium, observed by the Hubble Space Telescope, provide important information about the…
Clarification of the Nature of the Galaxy [CFC97] Cen 05
Da Costa, G. S.; Jerjen, H.; Bouchard, A.
The galaxy [CFC97] Cen 05 has in the past been considered an H I-rich dwarf galaxy in the nearby Centaurus A group. We have used Australia Telescope Compact Array observations to show that the H I associated with [CFC97] Cen 05 by Côté et al. is most likely a Galactic high-velocity cloud that is centered ~17' from the optical image of the galaxy. …
Light variations of massive stars (α Cyg variables). XIX. The late-type supergiants R 59, HDE 268822, HDE 269355, HDE 269612 and HDE 270025 in the LMC
Sterken, C.; van Genderen, A. M.; Jones, A. F.
We present and discuss VBLUW photometry (Walraven system) of five supergiants in the LMC. For one well-known variable, the hypergiant R 59 = HDE 268757 (G7 Ia+) also Hipparcos photometry and numerous visual observations are available. The second variable is HDE 269612 (F0 Ia), and a third one is HDE 268822 (F6 Ia). Two F6 Ia supergiants…
The Additional Line Component within the Iron Kα Profile in MCG -6-30-15: Evidence for Blob Ejection?
Qu, Jin-Lu; Wang, Jian-Min; Xue, Sui-Jian
The EPIC data of MCG -6-30-15 observed by XMM-Newton were analyzed for the complexities of the iron Kα line. Here we report that the additional line component (ALC) at 6.9 keV undoubtedly appears within the broad iron Kα line profile at the high state, whereas it disappears at the low state. These state-dependent behaviors exclude several possible…
Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer Spectroscopy of the Transitional Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable V405 Aurigae
Sing, David K.; Szkody, Paula; Howell, Steve B. +1 more
We present Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) observations of the magnetic cataclysmic variable V405 Aurigae. Together with four other DQ Her-type binaries, V405 Aur forms a small subclass of intermediate polars that are likely to evolve into low magnetic field strength polars, similar to AM Her. Our co-added FUSE spectrum exhibits broa…
