DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad6767 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...973..169G

We present the discovery of a unique Lyman-continuum (LyC) emitter at z = 3.088. The LyC emission was detected using the Hubble Space Telescope WFC3/UVIS F336W filter, covering a rest-frame wavelength range of 760–900 Å. The peak signal-to-noise ratio of LyC emission is 3.9 in an r = 0.″24 aperture and is spatially offset by 0.″29 ± 0.″04 (∼2.2 ± …

The Intrabinary Shock and Companion Star of Redback Pulsar J2215+5135
DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad4d85 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...974..315S

Romani, Roger W.; Sullivan, Andrew G.

PSR J2215+5135 (J2215) is a "redback" spider pulsar, where the intrabinary shock (IBS) wraps around the pulsar rather than the stellar-mass companion. Spider orbital light curves are modulated, dominated by their binary companion thermal emission in the optical bands and by IBS synchrotron emission in the X-rays. We report on new XMM-Newton X-ray …

Lyman Continuum Leakers in the AstroSat Ultraviolet Deep Field: Extreme-ultraviolet Emitters at the Cosmic Noon
DOI: 10.3847/2041-8213/ad2344 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...963L..23D

Teplitz, Harry I.; Rafelski, Marc; Saha, Kanak +5 more

We report the direct detection of Lyman continuum (LyC) emission from nine galaxies and one active galactic nucleus at z ∼ 1.1–1.6 in the GOODS-North field using deep observations from the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) on board AstroSat. The absolute escape fraction of the sources estimated from the far-ultraviolet and Hα-line luminosities …

SOFIA/HAWC+ Far-infrared Polarimetric Large Area CMZ Exploration Survey. II. Detection of a Magnetized Dust Ring in the Galactic Center
DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad402c Bibcode: 2024ApJ...968...63B

Morris, Mark R.; Staguhn, Johannes; Wollack, Edward J. +8 more

We present the detection of a magnetized dust ring (M0.8–0.2) in the central molecular zone (CMZ) of the Galactic center. The results presented in this paper utilize the first data release of the Far-Infrared Polarimetric Large Area CMZ Emission (FIREPLACE) survey (i.e., Paper I of this series). The FIREPLACE survey is a 214 µm polarimetric …

Recent mid-infrared observations with JWST's Mid-Infrared Instrument Low Resolution Spectrometer (MIRI LRS) have resulted in the first direct detections of absorption features from silicate clouds in the transmission spectra of two transiting exoplanets, WASP-17 b and WASP-107 b. In this Letter, we measure the mid-infrared (5–12 µm) dayside …

AGEL: Is the Conflict Real? Investigating Galaxy Evolution Models Using Strong Lensing at 0.3 < z < 0.9
DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad4ce3 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...970...86S

Lewis, Geraint F.; Kacprzak, Glenn G.; Glazebrook, Karl +13 more

Observed evolution of the total mass distribution with redshift is crucial to testing galaxy evolution theories. To measure the total mass distribution, strong gravitational lenses complement the resolved dynamical observations that are currently limited to z ≲ 0.5. Here we present the lens models for a pilot sample of seven galaxy-scale lenses fr…

Spectroastrometry and Reverberation Mapping of Active Galactic Nuclei. I. The Hβ Broad-line Region Structure and Black Hole Masses of Five Quasars
DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad6906 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...974...86L

Ho, Luis C.; Du, Pu; Hu, Chen +18 more

We conduct a reverberation mapping (RM) campaign to spectroscopically monitor a sample of selected bright active galactic nuclei with large anticipated broad-line region (BLR) sizes adequate for spectroastrometric (SA) observations by the GRAVITY instrument on the Very Large Telescope Interferometer. We report the first results for five objects, I…

We report the discovery and characterization of a small planet, TOI-1408 c, on a 2.2 day orbit located interior to a previously known hot Jupiter, TOI-1408 b (P = 4.42 days, M = 1.86 ± 0.02 M Jup, R = 2.4 ± 0.5 R Jup) that exhibits grazing transits. The two planets are near 2:1 period commensurability, resulting in significan…

PEARLS: NuSTAR and XMM-Newton Extragalactic Survey of the JWST North Ecliptic Pole Time-domain Field II
DOI: 10.3847/1538-4357/ad2b61 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...965..188Z

Koekemoer, Anton M.; Yan, Haojing; Willmer, Christopher N. A. +30 more

We present the second NuSTAR and XMM-Newton extragalactic survey of the JWST north ecliptic pole (NEP) time-domain field (TDF). The first NuSTAR NEP-TDF survey had 681 ks total exposure time executed in NuSTAR cycle 5 in 2019 and 2020. This second survey, acquired from 2020 to 2022 in cycle 6, adds 880 ks of NuSTAR exposure time. The overall NuSTA…

Limits on Planetary-mass Primordial Black Holes from the OGLE High-cadence Survey of the Magellanic Clouds
DOI: 10.3847/2041-8213/ad8e68 Bibcode: 2024ApJ...976L..19M

Udalski, Andrzej; Mróz, Przemek; Szymański, Michał K. +11 more

Observations of the Galactic bulge revealed an excess of short-timescale gravitational microlensing events that are generally attributed to a large population of free-floating or wide-orbit exoplanets. However, in recent years, some authors suggested that planetary-mass primordial black holes (PBHs) comprising a substantial fraction (1%–10%) of th…
