Suzaku Observation of G359.79-0.26, a New Supernova Remnant Candidate in the Galactic Center
Mori, Hideyuki; Koyama, Katsuji; Tsuru, Takeshi Go +2 more
Utilizing Suzaku observations, we obtained the X-ray spectrum of G359.79-0.26, an extended X-ray feature nearby the Galactic center (GC) supernova remnant (SNR) SgrA East. We estimated the contribution from the Galactic center diffuse X-rays, which allows us a proper background subtraction from the faint extended source. A thin thermal plasma with…
Discovery of a Bright Transient Ultraluminous X-Ray Source, Suzaku J1305-4931 in NGC4945
Isobe, Naoki; Gandhi, Poshak; Makishima, Kazuo +5 more
An X-ray source, Suzaku J1305-4931, was discovered in the south-west arm of a nearby Seyfert II galaxy, NGC4945, at 0.5-10keV flux of 2.2×10-12erg cm-2 s-1 during a Suzaku observation conducted on 2006 January 15-17. It was undetectable in a shorter observation on 2005 August 22--23, with an upper limit of 1.7×10
Asymmetric Ejecta Distribution of the Cygnus Loop Revealed with Suzaku
Miller, Eric D.; Katsuda, Satoru; Mori, Koji +4 more
We observed a linearly sliced area of the Cygnus Loop from the north-east to the south-west with Suzaku in seven pointings. After dividing the entire fields of view (FOV) into 119 cells, we extracted spectra from all of the cells and performed spectral analysis for them. We then applied both one- and two-component non-equilibrium ionization (NEI) …
An AKARI Search for Intracluster Dust of Globular Clusters
Yamamura, Issei; Matsunaga, Noriyuki; Mito, Hiroyuki +7 more
We report on observations of 12 globular clusters with the Far-Infrared Surveyor (FIS) aboard the AKARI satellite. Our goal is to search for emission from cold dust within clusters. We detected diffuse emissions toward NGC6402 and 2808, but the IRAS 100µm maps show the presence of strong background radiation. They are likely to have been emi…
Spectral Properties of Prompt Emission of Four Short Gamma-Ray Bursts Observed by the Suzaku-WAM and the Konus-Wind
Yamaoka, Kazutaka; Fukazawa, Yasushi; Ohno, Masanori +16 more
We have performed a joint analysis of prompt emission from four bright short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with the Suzaku-WAM and the Konus-Wind experiments. This joint analysis allows us to investigate the spectral properties of short-duration bursts over a wider energy band with a higher accuracy. We find that these bursts have a high Epeak
Evidence for Resonance Line Scattering in the Suzaku X-Ray Spectrum of the Cygnus Loop
Hughes, John P.; Miyata, Emi; Masai, Kuniaki
We present an analysis of the Suzaku observation of the northeastern rim of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant. The high detection efficiency together with the high spectral resolution of the Suzaku X-ray CCD camera enables us to detect highly-ionized C and N emission lines from the Cygnus Loop. Given the significant plasma structure within the Suz…
Discovery of Extended X-Ray Emission from an Unidentified TeV Source, HESS J1614-518, Using the Suzaku Satellite
Koyama, Katsuji; Matsumoto, Hironori; Bamba, Aya +8 more
We report Suzaku results concerning HESS J1614-518, which is the brightest extended TeV gamma-ray source discovered in the Galactic plane survey conducted using the H.E.S.S. telescope. We discovered three X-ray objects in the field of view of the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer, which were designated as Suzaku J1614-5141 (src A), Suzaku J1614-5152 (src…
Spectral Evolution of GRB060904A Observed with Swift and Suzaku --- Possibility of Inefficient Electron Acceleration
Yamaoka, Kazutaka; Maeno, Shouta; Murakami, Toshio +39 more
We observed an X-ray afterglow of GRB 060904A with the Swift and Suzaku satellites. We found rapid spectral softening during both the prompt tail phase and the decline phase of an X-ray flare in the Swift/BAT and Swift/XRT data. The observed spectra were fit by power-law photon indices which rapidly changed from Γ = 1.51+0.04-0.03<…
Detection of a Rare Supersoft Outburst Event during a Suzaku Observation of 1E0102.2-7219
Miller, Eric D.; Maeda, Yoshitomo; Tsujimoto, Masahiro +4 more
We report on the detection of a transient X-ray source toward the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) using the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (XIS) on board the Suzaku telescope. The source was detected at the edge of the XIS image during a routine observation of the calibration source 1E0102.2-7219, a supernova remnant in the SMC. We constrained the source…
Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Faint Companions around Young Stellar Objects Associated with the Taurus Molecular Cloud
Pyo, Tae-Soo; Tamura, Motohide; Hayashi, Masahiko +9 more
We have conducted near-infrared spectroscopy of 26 faint objects around young stellar objects in the Taurus molecular cloud. These objects were detected during a course of near-infrared coronagraphic searches for companions around 72 young stellar objects with the Subaru Telescope and the near-infrared coronagraph CIAO (coronagraphic imager with a…
