Relevance of the feature ``cluster number'' in a non-parametric method for the automatic selection of high energy gamma-ray events in spark chambers

An "ad hoc" feature is defined to improve the efficiency of non-parametric methods. The results obtained on the analysis of events detected by the COS-B satellite wire spark chamber are reported.
