X-ray and soft gamma-ray spectra of broad-line radio galaxies
DOI: 10.1046/j.1365-8711.1998.01831.x Bibcode: 1998MNRAS.299..449W

Zdziarski, Andrzej A.; Madejski, Greg M.; Johnson, W. Neil +2 more

We study X-ray and soft gamma-ray spectral properties of nearby broad-line radio galaxies (BLRGs) using data from GingaASCA, OSSE and EXOSAT. The X-ray spectra are well fitted by an intrinsic power-law continuum with an energy index of alpha~0.7, moderately absorbed by a cold medium. In addition, the Ginga spectra show fluorescent Fe Kalpha lines …

Coronal and Transition Region Structure in the RS Canum Venaticorum Binaries V711 Tauri, AR Lacertae, and II Pegasi. I. Data Analysis and Emission Measure Distributions
DOI: 10.1086/305502 Bibcode: 1998ApJ...497..883G

Jordan, C.; Griffiths, N. W.

We present a study of the transition regions and coronae of the RS CVn binaries V711 Tau, AR Lac, and II Peg. Archival data from the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE), International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE), Goddard High-Resolution Spectrograph (GHRS), and a variety of X-ray telescopes have been analyzed and modeled. Emission measure distribut…

The comptonized X-ray source X 1724-308 in the globular cluster Terzan 2
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.astro-ph/9809014 Bibcode: 1998A&A...339..802G

Stella, L.; Parmar, A. N.; Guainazzi, M. +3 more

We report on the BeppoSAX observation of the X-ray source X 1724-308 in the globular cluster Terzan 2. The broadband spectrum can be described as the superposition of a power-law with photon spectral index Gamma =~ 1.6-1.9 and a thermal component with typical temperature kT ~ 1 keV. X 1724-308 is detected in the PDS up to 150 keV with a S/N ratio …

Intraday variability in X-ray selected BL Lacertae objects
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.astro-ph/9709116 Bibcode: 1998A&A...329..853H

Wagner, S. J.; Heidt, J.

We present a study of the intraday variability behaviour of two samples of X-ray selected BL Lac objects, the EMSS and EXOSAT samples consisting of 22 and 11 sources, respectively. In both samples we were able to detect intraday variability in less than 40% of the sources only. The duty cycle (the fraction of time, when a BL Lac object is variable…

Discovery of a new 170 S X-ray pulsar 1SAX J1324.4-6200
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.astro-ph/9810010 Bibcode: 1998A&A...339L..41A

Parmar, A. N.; Mineo, T.; Angelini, L. +2 more

We report the discovery with BeppoSAX of a new 170.84 +/- 0.04 s X-ray pulsar, XB 1323-619b, found serendipitously in the field of the X-ray binary XB 1323-619 in 1997 August. The source and periodicity are also detected in archival ASCA data taken in 1994. The X-ray spectrum is modeled by a power-law with a photon index of 1.0 +/- 0.4 and absorpt…

Analyzing short-term X-ray variability of Cygnus X-1 with Linear State Space Models
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.astro-ph/9802339 Bibcode: 1998A&A...334..201P

Pottschmidt, Katja; Wilms, Joern; Koenig, Michael +1 more

Cyg X-1 exhibits irregular X-ray variability on all measured timescales. The usually applied shot noise models describe the typical short-term behavior of this source by superposition of randomly occuring shots with a distribution of shot durations. We have reanalyzed EXOSAT ME observations of Cyg X-1\ using the more general Linear State Space Mod…

A comparison of the fast timing behaviour of 4U 1705-44 to that of 4U 1608-52 and Cygnus X-1
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.astro-ph/9809274 Bibcode: 1998A&A...340..143B

van der Klis, M.; Berger, M.

We studied the fast timing behaviour of the atoll source \leavevmode4U 1705-44 using the entire \mboxEXOSAT dataset, four observations covering a total of 230 000 seconds of 1-20 keV spectral and timing data. In one of the observations, \leavevmode4U 1705-44 was in a low intensity ``island'' state and had an unusually hard spectrum. The fast timin…

A Fit to the Simultaneous Broadband Spectrum of Cygnus X-1 Using the Transition Disk Model
DOI: 10.1086/305278 Bibcode: 1998ApJ...495..407M

Misra, R.; Melia, Fulvio; Chitnis, V. R.

We have used the transition disk model to fit the simultaneous broadband (2-500 keV) spectrum of Cygnus X-1 from OSSE and Ginga observations. In this model, the spectrum is produced by saturated Comptonization within the inner region of the accretion disk, where the temperature varies rapidly with radius. In an earlier attempt, we demonstrated the…

F, G and K stars in the ROSAT all-sky survey. I. Photometry
DOI: 10.1051/aas:1998431 Bibcode: 1998A&AS..131..197M

Pasquini, L.; Krautter, J.; Cutispoto, G. +2 more

We present accurate BV(RI)_c photometry for a sample of F, G and K stars detected in selected areas of the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS). We have used the photometry, in addition to low-resolution spectroscopy, to estimate spectral classifications, distances and X-ray luminosities. The log (L_X / L_V) in the sample lies below -2. Although the sample…

Broad band X-ray spectrum of Cygnus X-1
DOI: 10.48550/arXiv.astro-ph/9710287 Bibcode: 1998A&A...331..251C

Rao, A. R.; Chitnis, V. R.; Agrawal, P. C.

We present the hard X-ray (20 - 100 keV) observations of Cygnus X-1 obtained using a large area balloon-borne Xenon filled Multi-anode Proportional Counter (XMPC) telescope. The observations were carried out during the gamma_2 state of the source and we obtain a power law photon index of 1.62+/-0.07. To constrain the spectral shape of the source, …
