The Stellar Winds of 203 Galactic O Stars: A Quantitative Ultraviolet Survey
DOI: 10.1086/191321 Bibcode: 1989ApJS...69..527H

Howarth, Ian D.; Prinja, Raman K.

Measurements of the resonance lines of C IV, N V, and Si IV in a sample of 203 O stars observed using IUE in a high-resolution mode are presented. The data are discussed using a consistent set of radius, luminosity, and mass estimates. The ratio of the maximum observed velocity and the terminal (farfield) velocity is found to average at 3.0 for 13…

The Ultraviolet Spectrum of eta Carinae
DOI: 10.1086/191405 Bibcode: 1989ApJS...71..983V

Cassatella, Angelo; Viotti, Roberto; Rossi, Lucio +2 more

An atlas of the high-resolution UV spectrum of Eta Car from 1200 to 1974 A and from 2200 to 3230 A is presented, based on IUE observations made between 1978 and 1980. The fluxes and equivalent widths of the emission and absorption features, and the stellar continuum in line-free regions are presented. The profiles displayed by the most intense emi…

A Case Study of a WC Planetary Nebula Nucleus: Henize 2-99
DOI: 10.1086/191338 Bibcode: 1989ApJS...70..213K

Feibelman, Walter A.; Shaw, Richard A.; Lutz, Julie H. +1 more

The WC spectrum of the nucleus of the planetary nebula Henize 2-99. Fluxes are given, emission lines are identified, and blends are described. The most powerful emissions are C III, C II, and C IV. O, H, and Si lines are also observed, but little stellar nitrogen is found except for N V. The interstellar extinction is estimated at c = 0.9 + or - 0…

On the Signal-to-Noise Ratio in IUE High-Dispersion Spectra
DOI: 10.1086/191379 Bibcode: 1989ApJS...71..387L

Adelman, Saul J.; Leckrone, David S.

An observational and data reduction technique for fixed pattern noise (FPN) and random noise (RN) in fully extracted IUE high-dispersion spectra is described in detail, along with actual empirical values of signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) achieved. A co-addition procedure, involving SWP and LWR cameras observations of the same spectrum at different po…

Line Identifications in the Ultraviolet Spectrum of 31 Cygni
DOI: 10.1086/191324 Bibcode: 1989ApJS...69..667B

Bauer, Wendy Hagen; Stencel, Robert E.

Line identifications are presented for the Zeta Aur-type eclipsing binary system 31 Cyg (K4 Ib + B4 V). The rich absorption spectrum observed during chromospheric eclipse has been nearly completely identified. This list will be useful in analyzing spectra of related binaries, such as 32 Cyg and VV Cep. The large number of line transitions contribu…
