Suzaku Observations of Active Galactic Nuclei Detected in the Swift BAT Survey: Discovery of a ``New Type'' of Buried Supermassive Black Holes
Ueda, Yoshihiro; Terashima, Yuichi; Mushotzky, Richard +6 more
We present the Suzaku broadband observations of two AGNs detected by the Swift BAT hard X-ray (>15 keV) survey that did not have previous X-ray data, SWIFT J0601.9-8636 and SWIFT J0138.6-4001. The Suzaku spectra reveal in both objects a heavily absorbed power-law component with a column density of NH~=1023.5-1024
Type Ia and II Supernovae Contributions to Metal Enrichment in the Intracluster Medium Observed with Suzaku
Ishida, Manabu; Sato, Kosuke; Ohashi, Takaya +4 more
We studied the properties of the intracluster medium (ICM) in two clusters of galaxies (AWM 7 and Abell 1060) and two groups (HCG 62 and NGC 507) with the X-ray observatory Suzaku. Based on spatially resolved energy spectra, we measured for the first time precise cumulative ICM metal masses within 0.1 and ~0.3r180. Comparing our results…
The Suzaku Observation of the Nucleus of the Radio-loud Active Galaxy Centaurus A: Constraints on Abundances of the Accreting Material
Ptak, A.; Fukazawa, Y.; Kataoka, J. +16 more
A Suzaku observation of the nucleus of the radio-loud AGN Centaurus A in 2005 has yielded a broadband spectrum spanning 0.3-250 keV. The net exposure times after screening were 70 ks per X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (XIS) camera, 60.8 ks for the Hard X-ray Detector (HXD) PIN, and 17.1 ks for the HXD GSO. The hard X-rays are fit by two power laws of …
Low-Energy Cutoffs and Hard X-Ray Spectra in High-z Radio-loud Quasars: The Suzaku View of RBS 315
Maraschi, L.; Tagliaferri, G.; Ghisellini, G. +4 more
We present the results from the Suzaku observation of the powerful radio-loud quasar RBS 315 (z=2.69), for which a previous XMM-Newton observation showed an extremely flat X-ray continuum up to 10 keV (photon index Γ=1.26) and indications of strong intrinsic absorption (NH~1022 cm-2, assuming neutral gas). The inst…
Accretion Disk Illumination in Schwarzschild and Kerr Geometries: Fitting Formulae
Fukumura, Keigo; Kazanas, Demosthenes
We describe the methodology and compute the illumination of geometrically thin accretion disks around black holes of arbitrary spin parameter a exposed to the radiation of a pointlike isotropic source at arbitrary height above the disk on its symmetry axis. We then provide analytic fitting formulae for the illumination as a function of the source …
The Field of the TeV Source HESS J1804-216 in X-Rays and Other Wavelengths
Garmire, G. P.; Pavlov, G. G.; Kargaltsev, O.
The field of the extended TeV source HESS J1804-216 was serendipitously observed with the Chandra ACIS detector on 2005 May 4. The data reveal several X-ray sources within the bright part of HESS J1804-216. The brightest of these objects, CXOU J180432.4-214009, which has been also detected with Swift (2005 November 3) and Suzaku (2006 April 6), is…
