The Effects of Space Weathering at UV Wavelengths: S-Class Asteroids
Vilas, Faith; Hendrix, Amanda R.
We present evidence that space weathering manifests itself at near-UV wavelengths as a bluing of the spectrum, in contrast with the spectral reddening that has been seen at visible-near-IR wavelengths. Furthermore, the effects of space weathering at UV wavelengths tend to appear with less weathering than do the longer wavelength effects, suggestin…
A Far-Ultraviolet Study of the Hot White Dwarf in the Dwarf Nova WW Ceti
Szkody, Paula; Sion, Edward M.; Godon, Patrick +1 more
We present a synthetic spectral analysis of IUE archival and FUSE (Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer) far-UV spectra of the peculiar dwarf nova WW Cet. During the quiescence of WW Cet, a white dwarf with Twd~26,000+/-1000 K can account for the far-UV flux and yields the proper distance. However, the best agreement with the observat…
Swift Observations of the Highly X-Ray Variable Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 Galaxy RX J0148.3-2758
O'Brien, Paul T.; Schady, Patricia; Leighly, Karen M. +4 more
We report on Swift observations of the narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy RX J0148.3-2758. It was observed for 41.6 ks in 2005 May and for 15.8 ks in 2005 December. On short as well as on long timescales, RX J0148.3-2758 is a highly variable source. It doubles its X-ray flux within 18-25 ks. The observation of 2005 December 9, which had a flux 4 times l…
