A Catalog and Atlas of Cataclysmic Variables-Second Edition
Shara, Michael M.; Downes, Ronald; Webbink, Ronald F.
We present a catalog of all 1020 known cataclysmic variables (CVs). This paper is a major update of the first edition of the catalog (Downes and Shara 1993, PASP, 105, 127), which contained coordinates (measured in the reference frame of the Hubble Space Telescope Guide Star Survey for the non-novae, and obtained from the literature for the novae)…
The Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope: Instrument and Data Characteristics
O'Connell, R. W.; Bohlin, R. C.; Stecher, T. P. +16 more
The Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (\UIT) was flown as part of the \AstroMiss\ observatory on the Space Shuttle Columbia in December 1990 and again on the Space Shuttle Endeavor in March 1995. Ultraviolet (1200-3300\AA) images of a variety of astronomical objects, with a 40\arcmin\ field of view and a resolution of about 3\arcsec, were recorded on …
The Mass of the Classical Cepheid V350 SGR
Bohm-Vitense, E.; Evans, N. R.; Carpenter, K. +2 more
Two medium resolution spectra of the hot companion of the Cepheid V350 Sgr have been obtained with the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph aboard the Hubble Space Telescope. Comparison of these spectra (in the wavelength range 1840 to 1880 \AA) with the spectrum of $\alpha$ Lyr shows that V350 Sgr B has a projected rotation velocity which may be …
The IUE Spectrum of the Binary Nucleus of the Planetary Nebula NGC 1514
Feibelman, W. A.
Archival IUE low-dispersion spectra and the first ultraviolet high-dispersion spectrum of the binary nucleus of NGC 1514 have been analyzed. Both SWP and LWR low-dispersion spectra show variability by as much as a factor of two in the continuum level between the years 1978 and 1989. Weak P Cygni features for OV lambda 1371 and C IV lambda 1549 yie…
The Supergiant Binary BM CAS
Evans, N. R.; Fernie, J. D.
Attracted by an earlier claim (Thiessen 1956) that BM Cas is an eclipsing binary with one component a classical Cepheid, we have obtained new photometry and IUE ultraviolet spectra of the system. While we verify that there is variability in addition to the eclipses, we conclude that there is no classical Cepheid present. The variability is irregul…
A Reassessment of the IUE Emission Line Spectrum of the Planetary Nebula NGC 5189 and Its Central Star
Feibelman, W.
Archival high-and low-dispersion IUE spectra of NGC 5189 and its central star were reexamined. It was found that earlier published results misinterpreted nebular features for stellar emission lines due to incorrect coordinates and/or incorrect pointing of the spacecraft. NGC 5189 has a UV spectrum rich in emission lines of He II, C II], C III, C I…
