Spectral Properties of Prompt Emission of Four Short Gamma-Ray Bursts Observed by the Suzaku-WAM and the Konus-Wind
Yamaoka, Kazutaka; Fukazawa, Yasushi; Ohno, Masanori +16 more
We have performed a joint analysis of prompt emission from four bright short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with the Suzaku-WAM and the Konus-Wind experiments. This joint analysis allows us to investigate the spectral properties of short-duration bursts over a wider energy band with a higher accuracy. We find that these bursts have a high Epeak
Evidence for Resonance Line Scattering in the Suzaku X-Ray Spectrum of the Cygnus Loop
Hughes, John P.; Miyata, Emi; Masai, Kuniaki
We present an analysis of the Suzaku observation of the northeastern rim of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant. The high detection efficiency together with the high spectral resolution of the Suzaku X-ray CCD camera enables us to detect highly-ionized C and N emission lines from the Cygnus Loop. Given the significant plasma structure within the Suz…
Discovery of Extended X-Ray Emission from an Unidentified TeV Source, HESS J1614-518, Using the Suzaku Satellite
Koyama, Katsuji; Matsumoto, Hironori; Bamba, Aya +8 more
We report Suzaku results concerning HESS J1614-518, which is the brightest extended TeV gamma-ray source discovered in the Galactic plane survey conducted using the H.E.S.S. telescope. We discovered three X-ray objects in the field of view of the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer, which were designated as Suzaku J1614-5141 (src A), Suzaku J1614-5152 (src…
Spectral Evolution of GRB060904A Observed with Swift and Suzaku --- Possibility of Inefficient Electron Acceleration
Yamaoka, Kazutaka; Maeno, Shouta; Murakami, Toshio +39 more
We observed an X-ray afterglow of GRB 060904A with the Swift and Suzaku satellites. We found rapid spectral softening during both the prompt tail phase and the decline phase of an X-ray flare in the Swift/BAT and Swift/XRT data. The observed spectra were fit by power-law photon indices which rapidly changed from Γ = 1.51+0.04-0.03<…
Detection of a Rare Supersoft Outburst Event during a Suzaku Observation of 1E0102.2-7219
Miller, Eric D.; Maeda, Yoshitomo; Tsujimoto, Masahiro +4 more
We report on the detection of a transient X-ray source toward the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) using the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (XIS) on board the Suzaku telescope. The source was detected at the edge of the XIS image during a routine observation of the calibration source 1E0102.2-7219, a supernova remnant in the SMC. We constrained the source…
Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Faint Companions around Young Stellar Objects Associated with the Taurus Molecular Cloud
Pyo, Tae-Soo; Tamura, Motohide; Hayashi, Masahiko +9 more
We have conducted near-infrared spectroscopy of 26 faint objects around young stellar objects in the Taurus molecular cloud. These objects were detected during a course of near-infrared coronagraphic searches for companions around 72 young stellar objects with the Subaru Telescope and the near-infrared coronagraph CIAO (coronagraphic imager with a…
Near-Infrared Spectra of 21 Wolf-Rayet Stars: Wind Clumping and Mass-Loss Rates
Miyata, Takashi; Motohara, Kentaro; Nishimaki, Yuichirou +2 more
We present 0.9-2.4µm spectra of 21 galactic Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars that were obtained by using an echelle spectrograph attached to the 1.5m infrared telescope in Tokyo. The observed Wolf-Rayet stars contain 12WNE, 3WNL, and 6WC stars. The near-infrared continuum spectra can be fitted by the superposition of stellar blackbody radiation with a …
Spatial Distributions of Dust and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Nearby Elliptical Galaxy NGC 4589 Observed with AKARI
Onaka, Takashi; Sakon, Itsuki; Kaneda, Hidehiro +2 more
We report on near- to far-infrared (IR) observations of the nearby elliptical galaxy NGC 4589 by AKARI. NGC 4589 has acomplex stellar rotation field with aposition angle difference of 45° between the kinematic and morphological axes, although its morphology shows asmooth optical profile that closely follows the de Vaucouleurs law. The galaxy has a…
Implication for Super-Critical Accretion Flow in the Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 Galaxy PKS 0558-504
Kunieda, Hideyo; Haba, Yoshito; Terashima, Yuichi +1 more
We present results from XMM-Newton observations of the narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy PKS0558-504. The 2-12keV X-ray spectra can be well-reproduced by a single power law with a photon index of ∼2.2. The extrapolation of this power law continuum into the lower energy band reveals the existence of a strong soft excess component. When we applied a mult…
Suzaku Observation of the Anomalous X-Ray Pulsar CXOU J164710.2--455216
Dotani, Tadayasu; Enoto, Teruaki; Kokubun, Motohide +11 more
A Suzaku TOO observation of CXOU J164710.2-455216 was performed on 2006 September 23-24 for a net exposure of 38.8ks. Pulsations were clearly detected in the XIS light curves with a pulse period of 10.61063(2)s. The XIS pulse profile is found to be highly non-sinusoidal. It shows 3 peaks of different amplitudes with an RMS fractional amplitude of …
