Spectroscopic Confirmation of the Fifth Image of SDSS J1004+4112 and Implications for the MBH--σ* Relation at z = 0.68
Smith, Graham P.; Oguri, Masamune; Sharon, Keren +5 more
We present the results of deep spectroscopy for the central region of the cluster lens SDSSJ 1004+4112 with the Subaru Telescope. A secure detection of an emission line of the faint blue stellar object (component E) near the center of the brightest cluster galaxy (G1) confirms that it is the central fifth image of the lensed quasar system. In addi…
An AKARI Search for Intracluster Dust of Globular Clusters
Yamamura, Issei; Matsunaga, Noriyuki; Mito, Hiroyuki +7 more
We report on observations of 12 globular clusters with the Far-Infrared Surveyor (FIS) aboard the AKARI satellite. Our goal is to search for emission from cold dust within clusters. We detected diffuse emissions toward NGC6402 and 2808, but the IRAS 100µm maps show the presence of strong background radiation. They are likely to have been emi…
Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Faint Companions around Young Stellar Objects Associated with the Taurus Molecular Cloud
Pyo, Tae-Soo; Tamura, Motohide; Hayashi, Masahiko +9 more
We have conducted near-infrared spectroscopy of 26 faint objects around young stellar objects in the Taurus molecular cloud. These objects were detected during a course of near-infrared coronagraphic searches for companions around 72 young stellar objects with the Subaru Telescope and the near-infrared coronagraph CIAO (coronagraphic imager with a…
Central Spiral Structure of Molecular Gas in Maffei 2
Kuno, Nario; Nakanishi, Kouichiro; Sorai, Kazuo +1 more
The distribution and kinematics of molecular gas in the central region of the barred spiral galaxy Maffei2 were investigated using a data set of 12CO(1-0),12CO(2-1), CS(2-1) lines, and 103GHz continuum. We found that the offset ridges along the kpc-scale bar continue to the central spiral structure embedded in a weak oval str…
Near-Infrared Coronagraphic Observations of a Classical TTauri Star, DO Taurus
Tamura, Motohide; Hayashi, Masahiko; Kudo, Tomoyuki +4 more
A high angular resolution near-infrared image of a classical TTauri star, DO Tau, was obtained with Coronagraphic Imager with Adaptive Optics (CIAO) mounted on the Subaru Telescope. Circumstellar emission was detected at ∼1".7 from the central star in the direction of the redshifted jet. No emission was found toward the opposite direction. We also…
