Detection of the hard X-ray non-thermal emission from Kepler's supernova remnant
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psaa121 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73..302N

Katsuda, Satoru; Terada, Yukikatsu; Bamba, Aya +1 more

We report the first robust detection of the hard X-ray emission in the 15-30 keV band from Kepler's supernova remnant with the silicon PIN-type semiconductor detector of the hard X-ray detector (HXD-PIN) onboard Suzaku. The detection significance is 7.17σ for the emission from Kepler's entire X-ray emitting region. The energy spectrum is found to …

A study of the accretion mechanisms of the high-mass X-ray binary IGR J00370+6122
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psab083 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73.1389U

Fukazawa, Yasushi; Makishima, Kazuo; Takahashi, Hiromitsu +1 more

IGR J00370+6122 is a high-mass X-ray binary with a B1 Ib primary star and a companion suggested to be a neutron star because of the detection of a 346 s pulsation in a one-off 4 ks observation. To better understand the nature of the compact companion, the present work performs timing and spectral studies of the X-ray data of this object, taken wit…

Suzaku detection of solar wind charge exchange emission from a variety of highly ionized ions in an interplanetary coronal mass ejection
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psab015 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73..504A

Katsuda, Satoru; Ezoe, Yuichiro; Yoneyama, Tomokage +8 more

X-ray emission generated through solar-wind charge exchange (SWCX) is known to contaminate X-ray observation data, the amount of which is often significant or even dominant, particularly in the soft X-ray band, when the main target consists of comparatively weak diffuse sources, depending on the space weather during the observation. In particular,…

Spatial distribution of the X-ray-emitting plasma of U Geminorum in quiescence and outburst
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psaa111 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73..143T

Maeda, Yoshitomo; Ishida, Manabu; Hayashi, Takayuki +2 more

We present our analysis of the Suzaku data of U Geminorum (U Gem) from 2012 both in quiescence and outburst. Unlike SS Cygni (SS Cyg), the hard X-ray flux of U Gem is known to increase at times of optical outburst. A sophisticated spectral model and reliable distance estimate now reveal that this can be attributed to the fact that the mass accreti…

Studies of emission regions of the X-ray pulsar Hercules X-1 with pulse-phase-resolved spectra observed with Suzaku
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psaa120 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73..286K

Dotani, Tadayasu; Inoue, Hajime; Kondo, Keisuke

Pulse-phase-resolved X-ray spectra of the X-ray pulsar Her X-1 observed with Suzaku are analyzed. The analysis is based on a hypothesis that the observed variations of the continuum spectra associated with the neutron star spin originate in the changes of the projection areas of the emission regions viewed from the observer, and that the spectral …

Suzaku observations of Jovian diffuse hard X-ray emission
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psab053 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73..894N

Miyoshi, Yoshizumi; Ezoe, Yuichiro; Ishikawa, Kumi +6 more

We report on results of systematic analyses of the entire three X-ray data sets of Jupiter taken by Suzaku in 2006, 2012, and 2014. Jovian diffuse hard X-ray emission was discovered by Suzaku in 2006 when the solar activity went toward its minimum. The diffuse emission was spatially consistent with the Jovian inner magnetosphere and was spectrally…

Spatial distribution of the X-ray-emitting plasma of SS Cygni in quiescence and outburst
DOI: 10.1093/pasj/psab086 Bibcode: 2021PASJ...73.1418T

Maeda, Yoshitomo; Ishida, Manabu; Hayashi, Takayuki +2 more

We present our analysis of the Suzaku data of SS Cygni (SS Cyg) from 2005 both in quiescence and outburst. A fluorescent iron Kα line bears significant information about the geometry of an X-ray-emitting hot plasma and a cold reflector, such as the surfaces of the white dwarf (WD) and the accretion disk (AD). Our reflection simulation has revealed…
