X-Ray Temperature and Mass Measurements to the Virial Radius of Abell 1413 with Suzaku
Hoshino, Akio; Sato, Kosuke; Fukazawa, Yasushi +14 more
We present X-ray observations of the northern outskirts of the relaxed galaxy cluster A 1413 with Suzaku, whose XIS instrument has the low intrinsic background needed to make measurements of these low surface brightness regions. We excised 15 point sources superimposed on the image above a flux of 1 × 10-14erg cm-2s-1
Suzaku Discovery of a Hard X-Ray Tail in the Persistent Spectra from the Magnetar 1E 1547.0-5408 during its 2009 Activity
Enoto, Teruaki; Yamaoka, Kazutaka; Makishima, Kazuo +8 more
The fastest-rotating magnetar 1E 1547.0-5408 was observed in broad-band X-rays with Suzaku for 33 ks on 2009 January 28-29, 7 d after the onset of its latest bursting activity. After removing burst events, the absorption-uncorrected 2-10 keV flux of the persistent emission was measured with the XIS as 5.7 × 10-1erg cm-2s…
X-Ray Spectroscopy of Galactic Hot Gas along the PKS 2155-304 Sight Line
Mitsuda, Kazuhisa; Yamasaki, Noriko Y.; Wang, Q. Daniel +5 more
We present a detailed spectroscopic study of the hot gas in the Galactic halo toward the direction of a blazer PKS 2155-304 (z = 0.117). The OVII and OVIII absorption lines were measured with the Low and High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrographs aboard Chandra, and the OVII, OVIII, and NeIX emission lines produced in an adjacent field of the …
Discovery of K-Shell Emission Lines of Neutral Atoms in the Galactic Center Region
Koyama, Katsuji; Nobukawa, Masayoshi; Tsuru, Takeshi Go +2 more
The K-shell emission line of neutral iron from the Galactic center (GC) region is one of the keys concerning the structure and activity of the GC. The origin is still an open question, but possibly due either to X-ray radiation or to electron bombarding to neutral atoms. To address this issue, we analyzed the Suzaku X-ray spectrum from the GC regi…
Time Variability of the Geocoronal Solar-Wind Charge Exchange in the Direction of the Celestial Equator
Miyoshi, Yoshizumi; Ezoe, Yuichiro; Mitsuda, Kazuhisa +5 more
We report on the detection of a time variable OVII line emission in a deep 100 ks Suzaku X-ray Imaging Spectrometer spectrum of the galactic ridge X-ray emission. The observed line intensity is too strong (11 ± 2 line unit or photon cm-2 s-1 sr-1) to be emitted inside the heavily obscured galactic disk. It showed a…
Metallicity of the Fossil Group NGC 1550 Observed with Suzaku
Sato, Kosuke; Nakazawa, Kazuhiro; Ohashi, Takaya +4 more
We studied the temperature and metal abundance distributions of the intra-cluster medium (ICM) in a group of galaxies, NGC 1550, observed with Suzaku. NGC 1550 is classified as a fossil group, which has few bright member galaxies, except for the central galaxy. Thus, such a type of galaxy is important to investigate how metals are enriched to the …
Suzaku X-Ray and Optical Spectroscopic Observations of SS 433 in the 2006 April Multiwavelength Campaign
Makishima, Kazuo; Ueda, Yoshihiro; Yamada, Shin'ya +9 more
We report on results of the 2006 April multiwavelength campaign of SS 433, focusing on X-ray data observed with Suzaku at two orbital phases (in- and out-of-eclipse phases) and on simultaneous optical spectroscopic observations. Analyzing the FeXXV Kα lines originating from the jets, we detected a rapid variability of the Doppler shifts, dz/dt ≈ 0…
X-Ray Studies of HESS J1809-193 with Suzaku
Dotani, Tadayasu; Ebisawa, Ken; Bamba, Aya +1 more
Suzaku observed the region including HESS J1809-193, a TeV unidentified source, and confirmed the existence of extended hard X-ray emission previously reported by ASCA, as well as hard X-ray emission from PSR J1809-1917 in this region. A one-dimensional profile of the diffuse emission is represented along with a Gaussian model with a best-fit σ of…
A Catalog of Suzaku/WAM Hard X-Ray Solar Flares
Yamaoka, Kazutaka; Endo, Akira; Morigami, Kouichi +10 more
We developed a catalog of solar flares in the hard X-ray band observed with the Wide-band All-sky Monitor (WAM) onboard the Suzaku satellite between 2005 July and 2009 November. During this period, 105 solar flares (GOES class X: 13, M: 29, C: 47, B: 16) were detected with WAM, including 10% of GOES-class C events reported during the same period. …
Study of the Intracluster and Intergalactic Medium in the Sculptor Supercluster with Suzaku
Kelley, Richard L.; Sato, Kosuke; Ohashi, Takaya +5 more
We studied the high-temperature plasma in the direction of the Sculptor supercluster at z = 0.108 with Suzaku. Suzaku carried out four observations in the supercluster: namely, A 2811, A 2811 offset, A 2804, A 2801 regions in 2005 November-December, including the regions beyond the virial radii of these clusters. The spectra taken in regions outsi…
