In Situ Measurements of Interstellar Dust
Grün, E.; Landgraf, M.
We present the mass distribution of interstellar grains measured in situ by the Galileo and Ulysses space probes as cumulative flux. The derived in situ mass distribution per logarithmic size interval is compared to the distribution determined by fitting extinction measurements. Large grains measured in situ contribute significantly to the overall…
D/H-ratio: Observations with ORFEUS II
Werner, K.; Grewing, M.; Appenzeller, I. +12 more
During the second flight of the ORFEUS-SPAS satellite (Nov./Dec. 96) high resolution (λ/{Deltalambda} = 10,000) Echelle-spectra of BD +28^\circ 4211 in the wavelength regime 912 - 1400 Angstroms have been taken. Deuterium can be clearly identified in the ORFEUS-II Echelle-spectra of this star. For the first time it was possible to take spectra of …
Diffuse Ionized Gas in the beta CMa Tunnel
Gry, C.; Dupin, O.
We present HST observations of the interstellar medium toward the star beta CMa known to be located in a low density extension of the Local Bubble. Most of the matter in the sight-line is ionized and clumped in two main components. One of them, as well as one of the components detected toward epsilon CMa, is mostly ionized and only slightly deplet…
The Structure of the Local Hot Bubble Toward L = 165o, B = 0o Using IUE and ROSAT Data
de Boer, K. S.; Kerp, J.
The first X-ray-opaque cloud in the direction of Auriga lies at 180 pc. A tenuous cloud, whose distance is derived from IUE absorption line studies as well as from an analysis of ROSAT data, is embedded at 55 pc. The X-ray emitting gas has a temperature of 10^{5.9-6.0} K. The pressure is 1.6 10^4 K cm^{-3}.
Interstellar C IV and SI IV in the Direction of Loop I
Freire Ferrero, R.
Nearby late-B and early-A stars show clear IS absorptions in Mg II, C II and other lines (IUE spectra). Some of them, in the Sco Cen direction, also show absorption features at C IV and Si IV line wavelengths. We discuss the possible formation of these lines in an intermediate temperature gas region between the dense and cold H I wall and the hot …
