Bursty escape fluxes in plasma sheets of Mars and Venus
Fedorov, A.; Barabash, S.; Lundin, R. +5 more
High resolution measurements of plasma in the plasma sheets of Mars and Venus performed by almost identical plasma instruments ASPERA-3 on the Mars Express spacecraft and ASPERA-4 on Venus Express reveal similar features of bursty fluxes of escaping planetary ions. A period of bursts lasts about 1-2 min. Simultaneous magnetic field measurements on…
Giant flux ropes observed in the magnetized ionosphere at Venus
Luhmann, J. G.; Russell, C. T.; Wei, H. Y. +10 more
The Venus ionospheric response to solar and solar wind variations is most evident in its magnetic field properties. Early Pioneer Venus observations during the solar maximum revealed that the Venus ionosphere exhibits two magnetic states depending on the solar wind dynamic pressure conditions: magnetized ionosphere with large-scale horizontal magn…
First observation of the Venus UV dayglow at limb from SPICAV/VEX
Bertaux, Jean-Loup; Chaufray, Jean-Yves; Leblanc, Francois
We present the first limb observations of the dayglow emissions by the UV channel of SPICAV aboard Venus Express between October and December 2011. The CO Cameron bands between 180-260 nm and CO2+ doublet at 289 nm are clearly identified for the first time in the Venusian dayglow. The Cameron bands brightness peaks at 137.5 ±…
