An XMM-Newton and Chandra View of Massive Clusters of Galaxies to z = 1
Gondoin, P.; Maughan, B. J.; Mason, K. O. +7 more
The X-ray properties of a sample of high redshift (z>0.6), massive clusters observed with XMM-Newton and Chandra are described, including two exceptional systems. One, at z = 0.89, has an X-ray temperature of T = 11.5+1.1-0.9 keV (the highest temperature of any cluster known at z>0.6), an estimated mass of ≅(1.4±0.2)x10…
X-ray Archaeology of Galaxy Groups
Ponman, T. J.; Osmond, J. P. F.
We have assembled a sample of 60 galaxy groups in order to study the hot intragroup medium and better understand the processes by which it formed. We have analysed ROSAT data for all 60 groups and have obtained XMM data for a small subset. Here we present an initial analysis of the XMM data for NGC 5171, and a comparison with the ROSAT data. This …
XMM-Newton Observations of the Poor Cluster MKW 4
O'Sullivan, E.
We present a 15 ksec observation of the poor cluster MKW 4. While the cluster itself appears to be relaxed with little X-ray substructure, it is dominated by NGC 4073, a cD galaxy with a kinematically distinct core. We investigate the structure and properties of the cluster halo with particular reference to the temperature and abundance distributi…
