Total infrared luminosity estimation from local galaxies in AKARI all sky survey
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201629062 Bibcode: 2016A&A...592A.155S

Takeuchi, T. T.; Pollo, A.; Solarz, A.

We aim to use the a new and improved version of AKARI all sky survey catalogue of far-infrared sources to recalibrate the formula to derive the total infrared luminosity. We cross-match the faint source catalogue (FSC) of IRAS with the new AKARI-FIS and obtained a sample of 2430 objects. Then we calculate the total infrared (TIR) luminosity L

The faint end of the 250 µm luminosity function at z < 0.5
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201629076 Bibcode: 2016A&A...592L...5W

Aims: We aim to study the 250 µm luminosity function (LF) down to much fainter luminosities than achieved by previous efforts.
Methods: We developed a modified stacking method to reconstruct the 250 µm LF using optically selected galaxies from the SDSS survey and Herschel maps of the GAMA equatorial fields and Stripe 82. Our …

Optical spectroscopy of the microquasar GRS 1758-258: a possible intermediate mass system?
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201629630 Bibcode: 2016A&A...596A..46M

Luque-Escamilla, Pedro L.; Martí, Josep; Muñoz-Arjonilla, Álvaro J.

Context. GRS 1758-258 is one of two prototypical microquasars towards the Galactic center direction discovered almost a quarter of a century ago. The system remains poorly studied in the optical domain due to its counterpart being a very faint and absorbed target in a crowded region of the sky.
Aims: Our aim is to investigate GRS 1758-258 in …

On the properties of dust and gas in the environs of V838 Monocerotis
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201628235 Bibcode: 2016A&A...596A..96E

Aims: We aim to probe the close and distant circumstellar environments of the stellar outburst object V838 Mon.
Methods: Herschel far-infrared imaging and spectroscopy were taken at several epochs to probe the central point source and the extended environment of V838 Mon. PACS and SPIRE maps were used to obtain photometry of the dust imm…

Structure and kinematics of the clouds surrounding the Galactic mini-starburst W43 MM1
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201628653 Bibcode: 2016A&A...595A..66J

Massive stars have a major influence on their environment, yet their formation is difficult to study as they form quickly in highly obscured regions and are rare, hence more distant than lower mass stars. Westerhout 43 (W43) is a highly luminous galactic massive star-forming region at a distance of 5.5 kpc and the MM1 part hosts a particularly mas…

Multi-wavelength landscape of the young galaxy cluster RXJ 1257.2+4738 at z = 0.866. II. Morphological properties
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201526744 Bibcode: 2016A&A...592A.108P

Studying the evolution of the morphological distribution of galaxies in different environments can provide important information about the effects of the environment and the physical mechanisms responsible for the morphological transformations. As part of a complete analysis of the young cluster RXJ 1257+4738 at z ~ 0.9, in this work we study the …

Context. The Philae lander of the Rosetta mission, aimed at the in situ investigation of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, was deployed to the surface of the comet nucleus on 12 November 2014 at 2.99 AU heliocentric distance. The Dust Impact Monitor (DIM) as part of the Surface Electric Sounding and Acoustic Monitoring Experiment (SESAME) on the la…

X-ray narrow emission lines from the nuclear region of NGC 1365
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201629151 Bibcode: 2016A&A...595A..85W

Page, M. J.; Branduardi-Raymont, G.; Whewell, M.

Context. NGC 1365 is a Seyfert 2 galaxy with a starburst ring in its nuclear region. In this work we look at the XMM-Newton Reflection Grating Spectrometer (RGS) data from four 2012-13, three 2007 and two 2004 observations of NGC 1365, in order to analyse and characterise in a uniform way the soft X-ray narrow-line emitting gas in the nucleus.

Results from DROXO. IV. EXTraS discovery of an X-ray flare from the Class I protostar candidate ISO-Oph 85
DOI: 10.1051/0004-6361/201526562 Bibcode: 2016A&A...587A..36P

X-ray emission from young stellar objects (YSOs) is a key ingredient in understanding star formation. For the early, protostellar (Class I) phase, a very limited (and controversial) quantity of X-ray results is available to date. Within the EXTraS (Exploring the X-ray Transient and variable Sky) project, we have discovered transient X-ray emission…

On 1996 December 19, the Ultraviolet Coronagraph Spectrometer (UVCS) on board the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) conducted a special high-cadence sit-and-stare observation in the O vi 1032 Å spectral line above a polar coronal hole at a heliocentric distance of 1.38 R. The ~ 9-h dataset was analyzed by applying advanced spec…
