The qWR star HD 45166. II. Fundamental stellar parameters and evidence of a latitude-dependent wind
Oliveira, A. S.; Steiner, J. E.; Groh, J. H.
Context: The enigmatic object HD 45166 is a qWR star in a binary system with an orbital period of 1.596 day, and presents a rich emission-line spectrum in addition to absorption lines from the companion star (B7 V). As the system inclination is very small (i=0.77° ± 0.09°), HD 45166 is an ideal laboratory for wind-structure studies.

The mass distribution of RX J1347-1145 from strong lensing
Schrabback, T.; Bradač, M.; Lombardi, M. +5 more
Aims:We determine the central mass distribution of galaxy cluster RX J1347-1145 using strong gravitational lensing.
Methods: High-resolution HST/ACS images of the galaxy cluster RX J1347-1145 have enabled us to identify several new multiple-image candidates in the cluster, including a 5-image system with a central image. The multiple-images al…
Two new intermediate polars with a soft X-ray component
Mukai, K.; Gänsicke, B. T.; de Martino, D. +4 more
Aims: We analyze the first X-ray observations with XMM-Newton of 1RXS J070407.9+262501 and 1RXS 180340.0+401214, in order to characterize their broad-band temporal and spectral properties, also in the UV/optical domain, and to confirm them as intermediate polars.
Methods: For both objects, we performed a timing analysis of the X-ray and UV/opt…
Transiting exoplanets from the CoRoT space mission. V. CoRoT-Exo-4b: stellar and planetary parameters
Mazeh, T.; Aigrain, S.; Alonso, R. +42 more
Aims: The CoRoT satellite has announced its fourth transiting planet (Aigrain et al. 2008, A&A, 488, L43) with space photometry. We describe and analyse complementary observations of this system performed to establish the planetary nature of the transiting body and to estimate the fundamental parameters of the planet and its parent star.

Searching for mid-IR obscured AGN in the Chandra deep field North
Georgakakis, A.; Georgantopoulos, I.; Rovilos, E. +1 more
The efficiency of mid-infrared selection methods for finding obscured AGN is investigated using data in the Chandra Deep Field North. It is shown that samples of AGN candidates compiled on the basis of mid-infrared colours only suffer substantial contamination from normal galaxies. X-ray stacking analysis reveals a soft mean X-ray spectrum for the…
Star formation histories of early-type galaxies at z = 1.2 in cluster and field environments
Demarco, R.; Rosati, P.; Nonino, M. +3 more
We derive the star formation histories of early-type galaxies at z≃1.2 in both low and high density environments. To this purpose, we compare the co-added spectroscopic and 8-9 band photometric data of 43 mass selected early-type galaxies in the massive cluster RDCS J1252.9-2927 and the GOODS/CDF-S field with a large grid of composite stellar popu…
Spatially resolved dusty torus toward the red supergiant WOH G64 in the Large Magellanic Cloud
Weigelt, G.; Hofmann, K. -H.; Driebe, T. +2 more
Aims: We present N-band spectro-interferometric observations of the red supergiant
Astrometric and photometric monitoring of GQ Lupi and its sub-stellar companion
Neuhäuser, R.; Schmidt, T. O. B.; Mugrauer, M. +2 more
Context: Neuhäuser et al. (2005, A&A, 435, L13) presented direct imaging evidence for a sub-stellar companion to the young T Tauri star GQ Lupi. Common proper motion was highly significant, but no orbital motion was detected. Faint luminosity, low gravity, and a late-M/early-L spectral type indicated that the companion is either a planet or a …
Dust processing in photodissociation regions. Mid-IR emission modelling
Abergel, A.; Habart, E.; Compiègne, M. +1 more
Context: Mid-infrared spectroscopy of dense illuminated ridges (or photodissociation regions, PDRs) suggests dust evolution. Such evolution must be reflected in the gas physical properties through processes like photo-electric heating or H2 formation.
Aims: With Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) and ISOCAM data, we study the mid-IR emission …
The relationship between EUV dimming and coronal mass ejections. I. Statistical study and probability model
Harrison, R. A.; Brown, D. S.; Bewsher, D.
Aims:There have been many studies of extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) dimming in association with coronal mass ejection (CME) onsets. However, there has never been a thorough statistical study of this association, covering appropriate temperature ranges. Thus, we make use of a large campaign database utilising the Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer (CDS) an…
