X-ray emission from the Sagittarius D region
Koyama, Katsuji; Matsumoto, Hironori; Nobukawa, Masayoshi +2 more
We report results of the Suzaku observation toward the Sagittarius (Sgr) D region. Diffuse X-ray emission was clearly detected from inside the shell-type supernova remnant, the Sgr D SNR and is named G 1.02-0.18. A hint of an iron line is seen in the spectrum, suggesting that G 1.02-0.18 is a thin thermal plasma with the temperature of kT∼ 2keV . …

Spectral analysis of 3D MHD models of coronal structures
Peter, Hardi; Zacharias, Pia; Bingert, Sven
We study extreme-ultraviolet emission line spectra derived from three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic models of structures in the corona. In order to investigate the effects of increased magnetic activity at photospheric levels in a numerical experiment, a much higher magnetic flux density is applied at the photosphere as compared to the Sun. Thus…
Study on solar sources and polar cap absorption events recorded in Antarctica
Damasso, M.; Perrone, L.; Parisi, M. +2 more
Particularly intense events occurred on the Sun in a period around minimum of solar activity during cycle 23. We investigated the characteristics of September 2005 and December 2006 events and the properties of the correlated observations of ionospheric absorption, obtained by a 30 MHz riometer installed at Mario Zucchelli Station (MZS-Antarctica)…
Coronal dynamics and heating theories
Gudiksen, Boris V.
A large number of coronal heating theories have been proposed and most of them can be labeled as AC or DC heating theories. Here a short description of these two main theories is given, and the results of a DC heating model simulation is explained in more detail. As a result of that model, arguments are given for putting emphasis on launching a ve…
GRB observed by IBIS/PICsIT in the MeV energy range
Götz, D.; Foschini, L.; Di Cocco, G. +5 more
We present the preliminary results of a systematic search for GRB and other transients in the publicly available data for the IBIS/PICsIT (0.2-10 MeV) detector on board INTEGRAL. Lightcurves in 2-8 energy bands with time resolution from 1 to 62.5 ms have been collected and an analysis of spectral and temporal characteristics has been performed. Th…
Cluster observations showing the indication of the formation of a modified-two-stream instability in the geomagnetic tail
Daly, P. W.; Erkaev, N. V.; Lui, A. T. Y. +4 more
This study presents several observations of the Cluster spacecraft on September 24, 2003 around 15:10 UT, which show necessary prerequisites and consequences for the formation of the so-called modified-two-stream instability (MTSI). Theoretical studies suggest that the plasma is MTSI unstable if (1) a relative drift of electrons and ions is presen…
Investigation of the Mars Express HRSC color channel calibration
McCord, Thomas B.; Combe, Jean-Philippe
The High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) onboard the Mars Express spacecraft in orbit about Mars has four detector channels dedicated to produce images in four spectral channels. Utilizing these spectrophotometric data requires understanding the instrument radiometric calibration and other photometric properties of the data. We present here some r…
Dynamics of the plasma sheet in the magnetotail: Interrelation of turbulent flows and thin current sheet structures
Domrin, V. I.; Kropotkin, A. P.
Dynamics of the magnetotail involves elementary processes of magnetic field merging (reconnection layer formation) occurring on medium spatial scales. Every such process features two different stages, a fast one and a subsequent slower one. The corresponding short time scale T1 is associated with disturbances propagating in the tail lob…
