First geometrical calibration of the period-luminosity relation of Cepheids from the HIPPARCOS satellite.

A sample of the 36 nearest galactic Cepheids was measured with the HIPPARCOS satellite and supplied us with high precision geometrical parallaxes and accurate photometric data.
