Abstract
The authors have compared Copernicus and IUE high resolution spectra of the sharp-lined normal star ι Her with an LTE synthetic spectrum computed by using a blanketed Kurucz's (1979) model with parameters Teff = 17180K, log g = 3.43, and the new line lists of Kurucz (1988). A microturbulence ξ = 0 km s-1 gives the best agreement between observed and computed lines. After having revised the atomic data for some elements in Kurucz's line lists, the authors have provided identifications for most of the observed lines and have pointed out several missing lines for which no log gf are available. They have found an underabundance of B, N, P and to a lesser extent of C and Al, an overabundance of Ga, and solar abundances for Mg, Si, and S. For all the other elements they have assumed solar abundances. For the observed elements they have extracted lines which should have reliable atomic data. These lines, together with the plots of observed and computed spectra provided, should be helpful for abundance analyses from short-wavelength IUE spectra of other normal and peculiar B stars.
