Abstract
The authors have observed with the high-dispersion camera of the IUE the broad P Cygni profiles of C IV, N V, and O V that arise from Abell 78's nucleus. They find a terminal velocity to the wind that is close to 3670±30 km s-1, a positive velocity gradient, and an approximate mass loss rate of ≡4×10-9M_sun;yr-1. Superposed upon these high-velocity features are low-velocity absorption lines that may arise from a density enhancement in the wind as it brakes and builds up against the inner edge of the nebula.
