Abstract
Photometric and spectroscopic observations and UV spectrograms of the variable star S Dor are presented. The equipment used to obtain these data are described. The pseudophotosphere indicated by the absorption lines is examined; pulsation-like motions in the pseudophotosphere are detected. The UV data, which are characterized by Fe II and ionized metal absorption lines, are analyzed. The effect of temperature and density on the relationship between edge velocity and excitation potential is investigated; a maximum wind velocity of 140 km/sec is derived from the UV data. The flux distribution is studied by comparing the photometric data with the flux distribution of the Kurucz (1979) model. The Balmer lines, which are the most prominent spectral lines in the spectrograms, are examined.
