Abstract

Energetic neutral atoms (ENAs) detected near Earth's orbit in the energy range from a few to a few hundred keV/nucleon carry information about the ion acceleration and transport mechanisms in the distant heliosphere, processes that are sensitive to the magnetic field structure, turbulence, and the plasma flow pattern. We summarize here the ENA observations of the CELIAS/HSTOF sensor onboard SOHO in the energy range 58 - 88 keV/nucleon and compare them to models of the structure of the heliosphere and of the transport of energetic ion populations in the distant heliosphere.
